With these more realistic Addons nowadays Going Around is a thing that is much easier to happen. Bad Addons used to make the Spoiler act as a brick wall, no matter how bad you were managing your energy during the descent, you'd make to Vref without much problem. Now that we have proper Flight Dynamic, the Slippery of modern airliners, designed to minimize drag, make it hard on the pilot to manage the speed and descent at the same time, while deploying the Flaps and Gear.

The first I believe that made me sweat when an IVAO controller gave me a STAR that required a constant steep descent and I was already at a higher speed that I should've been was the Level D 767. The PMDG 737NGX does this pretty well too, don't count on those spoilers, specially since you can't use them past Flap 5.

I wonder if the PMDG 777 also has this hard to slow down aerodynamics. The spoilers on those wings are HUGE.

My last go-around was about 2 weeks ago in Boston.  Visibility was 1.5 miles and I was on the ILS for 22L planning to do an autoland.  When I broke out of the clouds I was significantly offset from the runway centerline even though my instruments showed me on glideslope and on centerline.  Turned out to be an issue with the FSX ILS possition.  I didn't fly the whole missed approach proceedure, instead I stayed in the pattern and flew the approach again, this time disconnecting the autopilot when I had a visual on the runway and manually correcting the approach.

I did my last G/A some minutes ago   I was flying as TUIJET 4882 from Cologne to Kos and then I had to perform a G/A, because I was too high.

Based on statistics gathered from Air France

Air France - there is the problem right there. ;)  Should be put on the list of dangerous airlines, but never will be.

Best regards,

Robin.

I've never had to go around on Vatsim yet. But I had to go around about ~2 weeks ago on approach to Gatwick in the NGX on IVAO because the controller had a messed up QNH setting and left everyone too high. Long story short, I was around 2000 feet above the glide about 10 miles out, so I asked for vectors to re-establish on the approach. Before that, though, I had only gone around once about ~1.5 years ago on approach to KBOS in the NGX, when FSX decided to change the wind by 180 degrees when I was 50 above the ground.

Well I usually don't have any, but TODAY was the exception.  Maybe this thread cursed me -_-   Had a Polar Air 744F landing on runway 19R at LEMH and as I was ready to touch the captain's bars, I clicked the TOGA button somehow without noticing it right away and all hell broke loose.  Had it been a long landing I may have made the newspapers lol, but I was able to recover and take her around for a second and successful attempt.

I had one yesterday, I was approaching Heathrow in my A320, waiting for the glide slope to engage. However, it didn't. Must've been the altitude restriction at DME 4 from the localizer. I tried waiting, but then it was too late. So, I pushed the thrust levers to the TO/GA detent, and went around. I didn't feel like doing it again, so I just closed FSX. Later I approached EGLL again and removed the restriction. Now I will always remove that restriction before landing.

I really shouldn't fly when tired. Tried to land at LCY in the Dash8 yesterday with flaps 10!...ooops

Vatsim controller offered to send a boat to pick me up!

Gulfstream was FAA certifying their Level 6 simulator on pilotedge.net and I was lucky enough to be flying in my NGX.  I did four missed approaches at KLAX with the G650.  The actual G650 simulator at Gulfstream was on Pilot Edge with the FAA monitoring.  It was pretty amazing.

I haven't flown for a while but am expecting to do so soon... However it is rare for me to have to do a go around but I often practice them anyway.

A bunch of years ago I was very confident in my skills in the MD-11 I was flying but I never really practiced go arounds etc, so came the day one was required and I muddled it a bit. No crash or anything exteme like that but it wasn't very majestic so since then I routinely practice go arounds in all the aircraft I fly. So I can't remember my last genuinely required go around.

EDIT: I do my remember my last it was a hand flown circle approach into Madeira, I wasn't happy with it so I aborted and tried again, second attempt turned out great.

When was your last go-around?

Saturday afternoon at EGLL/LHR

What was the reason?

Aircraft still on the runway (LH A321)

Do you usually fly the full IFR missed approach procedure to holding or just re-position visually or via vectors?

Depends. This time I vectored out to be re-sequenced. Landed about 10 minutes later.

Did you screw up or bust a restriction on your last Go-around?

Nope

Also do you routinely use the some sort of "traffic zapper" if AI traffic gets in your way?

Nope, I just keep my speed back as best I can to create separation. If this isn't possible then I will execute a missed approach.

On a side note, I executed a missed approach at Geneva on the next flight as I was unstable on final approach. Such is life in Flight Simulator.

I should add that my last real world go-around was last year now. This time it was a PA-28 that hadn't cleared.

I had the last GA last week on approach to KATL on VATSIM. Traffic volume was awesome (they had an event), alas the approach controller brought me a bit too high and I had to to a GA.

Unfortunately, due to a vast array of different plane and pilot capabilities have to deal with, VATSIM controllers always vector me back instead of allowing the documented missed app procedure. This one was no exception, so I ended ip just being vectored back. Shame really :-)

^My last landing into MHTG made me consider a better question: Who "should" have done a Go Around and did not?

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.
