How to change the tire screeching sound in X-Plane 10

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I found the tire screeching sound irritating.  I remember seeing some posts about replacing them with a more realistic sound but search turned up nothing specific.  Could you let me know how to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Which version of X-Plane are you running? I'm pretty sure this has been fixed in 10.20, as mine used to do it and no longer does. I only realised this once I read your post

Mine screeched in the default planes right up until the latest version, but doesn't with Carenado aircraft.  In the main X-Plane 10 folder under "Resources", there is a file called, I think (I'm not at home now) "dry skid" or something similar.  (just click on each wave folder to hear the sound).  I removed the screeching folder (copy it to your desktop or somewhere first) and then copied the rolling sound.  I then went to each aircraft (that I use) and, in the resources folder, replaced the screech (dry) folder with the rolling folder.  Problem solved.

This was copied from another forum and probably provides another/better option:

Just a take a file CRJ200 skid_dry.wav in CRJ-200 by Jrollon (X-Plane_10\Aircraft\CRJ-200\sounds\contact\), rename to skid_dry.wav and copy/replace this file to the folder X-Plane 10\Resources\sounds\contact.

Should provide a more realistic sound.
