Looking for permission to use USS Missouri by Gary Shetter

Featured Replies

I don't know if posting here will work, but I'm trying to contact Gary Shetter  to ask if I can redistribute some pieces of his Iowa Class Battleship package as part of a freeware scenery I've created.  I've given Pearl Harbor and Ford Island a makeover, and as part of that have place the USS Missouri overlooking the Arizona.

Gary, if you get this, please send me a PM.

Thanks.

And, just in case I can't get a hold of him, is there a "generally accepted" policy in the world of FSX addons regarding using parts of other freeware in a freeware project when the original author hasn't addressed it and can't be contacted?

Don't use anything without permission?  OK as long as it's freeware and credit is given?

Just curious...  I think I've seen the same model in another freeware scenery, but I can't be sure.

does the readme have any contact info?

Seem like a tough spot if the author cant be found...

As a scenery designer that has had his work uploaded without permission and credit many times, No, there is not a generally accepted policy of using files from anothers project without permission, freeware or not.. If the objects in a scenery are not offered explicitly as objects to use in your scenery to be shared, then you do not use them or make your own IMO.

I would guess that the other sceneries you saw them in didn't have permission either. I know of 3 big sim sites that are really bad about allowing users to upload others work and in my case it was near impossible to get the files pulled.

Hope he contacts you.

What does it say in the readme?

Thanks for the response.  Hopefully I'll hear something from him.

It doesn't say anything at all about using or not using, unfortunately.
