November 2, 200421 yr Hello all :)I finally went out and got PMDGs NG 737 and it looks awesome! I havent got off the ground yet though, still got a lot to figure out!But something jumped at me when I loaded up a plane - what on *earth* is that racket in the cockpit!? Sounds like an old industrial generator rattling away. The sound vanishes when I change the views in the cockpit to look left, right etc. (then I get the normal flightdeck hum) - but when I switch back to forward view the sound reappears screeching & rattling away. Its not an alarm or anything, throttles are idle, flaps up, Im just sitting in front of the gate with engines running.Cant find anything on the PMDG site about this so I was thinking of hunting down the sound, checking it with an audio editor & then deleting it.But before I do that I thought I'd check with you Avsimmers on here! Any of you PMDG people have this problem when you first got it?Please advice! Thanks lots :)
November 2, 200421 yr That is the trim adjusting I believe, but you would find better response in the PMDG support forum here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=136
November 2, 200421 yr The rattle noise is the trim adjusting and belive me i think its louder on the real thing. The 73 has a very noisy flightdeck with all the fans going.Darren
November 2, 200421 yr Having flown both the PMDG 737 and the United full motion simulator, I can tell you for a fact that the real thing is much noiser. In fact in the United sim, I just about had a heart attack when it first did its rattle, shake and roll.
November 2, 200421 yr Thank you all for responding so fast :)Ken...I went to the PMDG website like you suggested and they say the trim warning is a beeping sound whereas I was getting a loud rattling noise!Darren & Tom...wow I never knew that the cockpit was that noisy! Interesting!Anyway - problem solved!I...er...got impatient http://www.nextgenerationrecords.co.uk/boa...con_redface.gifSo I opened up Winamp and dragged all the PMDG sounds into it and had a listen. The culprit was this sound file: PMDG_electricsI deleted it and now the flightdeck sounds normal! Phew! For the curious the sound is located here: C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9SoundPmdg737tngThanks again :)
November 2, 200421 yr First of all...it's supposed to sound like that. Second, there's no need to delete it you can just shut it off in the PMDG menu option.
November 2, 200421 yr Oh you can disable it from the menu?...shows I got lots to learn lol.I havent deleted the file from the computer, I just cut-pasted it into another temp folder. So I shall move it back and then disable it from within the program.Im just curious why the sound totally vanishes when you change the views in the cockpit, then when you change to the normal forward view it comes back in with a vengeance!
November 2, 200421 yr The sound dissappears when you change views because of an Fs limitation I think. Theres an option in the menu to enable the sound in all views which I use even though it is unrealistic to hear the avionics sounds in spot view. Personally I think all the avionics/fans sounds Pmdg added really add to the atmosphere. Ex: Turning on the recirc fans. Even though it doesent do anything in the sim, atleast its a sound and I can pretend the fans are actually on and doing something. Id love an apu sound even though you can't hear that from the cockpit in real life.Andrew
November 2, 200421 yr One of the loudest background noise makers on the PMDG is the RECIRC FAN on the Air Conditioning/Bleed Air panel. Try turing off the RECIRC FAN and see if this makes a difference.Cheers,JohnBoeing 727/737 & Lockheed C-130/L-100 Mechanichttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
November 2, 200421 yr Thanks for all the input you lot :)I re-inserted the offending sound and then disabled it from within FS9...and it worked fine, no more racket.I actually had the good fortune to ride jumpseat in a 737-800 in Asia and I cannot recall a loud & rapid TAK-TAK-TAK-TAK-TAK-TAK-TAK-TAK sound on the flightdeck - which is the noise I get on the PMDG 737.Theres a solution though - I could use Audacity to edit the sound and reduce its volume by 50% and then save it. That way you can have it on but it wont sound like a runaway freight train.:)
November 3, 200421 yr Author Remeber that in the RL 737 you cannot here yourself think, PMDG's sounds have the noises such as the stby altimeter's *ticking* and the REC FAN going pretty strong. As was already mentioned, the PMDG MENU (in game) you can set most sound down or off, no need to go and delete anything. Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. March 25, 201313 yr What does one have to do to make the cockpit quiet when you are in the cold & dark state?edit, sorry i didnt see the post date. sorry for reviving an ancient topic Edited March 25, 201313 yr by Gilbertdk
March 25, 201313 yr A 9 year old post, that's impressive! If you use the 'PANEL LOAD' functionality in the FMC, and set it to Cold &^ Dark, it should give you the desired, completely quiet aircraft.
