Seeking advice - Carenado?

Recommended Posts

I never bought a Carenado when I had FSX or FS9. By that time I used to hear // read the worst about their models regarding flight dynamics and systems modelling / functionality, but when I tried X-Plane 10 I decided to try the Carenados available for that platform and was very positively surprised !

I believe having Dan Klaue behind the models for X-Plane 10 is the same quality certificate we have when I hear / read Bernt Stolle is the FD designer behind the FSX / P3D models, so, I am really decided to get one.

What would you recommend?

I love turboprops, but I also like GA in general. I had the Aeroworx B200 for fs9, and have read that the Carenado B200 has a very good systems / engine simulation, with the flight dynamics designed by BStiolle. This is one of the models I use the most in ELITE, with it's sophisticated systems ( clockwork version ) and engine modelling ( up to hotstarts and effects like operating the ice vanes correctly modelled in the ELITE version ...)

But then there's that beautiful Cirrus :-)

And... the only G1000-like experirnce I have is with the dfault aircraft with a variant of G1000 in P3D. I hear that they're heavy on the frames in the Carenados? What do you think?

My system is not top notch - an i5 2500 @3.3 with Nvidia GTX 650 Ti. It is running P3d with FTX Global, PMDG 737 NGX and Aerosoft AEX very smoothly (28-30 fps), but I've read the Carenados with G1000 can be heavier than a PMDG!

Any suggestions welcomed!

I was the same as you in regards to my opinion of Carenado and then I bought the B200 and I love it. I notice no real FPS hit but my system is a bit stronger than yours.

I think you will be impressed.

Go with RealAir, or Milviz.

I second the B200, it is an excellent visual model typical of Carenado. As far as systems go, the VC is almost all functional but I wouldn't say is is system based as such as you can run it with everything up and started with no special requirements. I think Carenado should start offering 'expert' modes.

JComm you would not enjoy the King Air.

Maybe the new 206?

I personally love Carenado planes, but their G1000s are really lacking in functionality.

If you only fly VFR, or are happy with the FSX default Garmin with some lipstick on it.. OK.

The C206 is nice, as is the B200..

If you are looking at P3D, you are going to be unable to use the RXP GNS units,

however - and that is a major loss IMHO..

Ok guys,

thank you all for the suggestions.

I will try to decide ;-)

FYI, Carenado has released "FPS patches" for the 182T and SR22, bringing the FPS on par with their other releases. I agree the actual G1000 simulation is still fairly basic, but for VFR and typical IFR it works fine. It's still more complex and feature filled than the regular steam panels that are approved for IFR. Especially for the 182T, which is still very much a "hands-on" pilot's airplane, the Carenado G1000 implementation works fine.

I can recommend anything Bernt Stolle has made the flight model for.

Other than that, as I'm sure you are aware Carenado aren't exactly renowned for their systems modelling - if you have ever used the Flight One Mustang, T182T or new King Air with their G1000 then the Carenado G1000 will leave you feeling pretty disappointed. The TBM850 was also something of a damp squib and definitely requires the attention of Mr Stolle!

Reading some of Bert's posts over at SOH I think he has stopped working directly with Carenado because he was increasingly frustrated with their failure to properly beta test their stuff before releasing it. Having said that he is still releasing flight models for their stuff, having done a new flight model for the Commander 114 fairly recently.

BTW, he also did the flight model for Carenado's XP10 C208. He's also done quite a few of the Alabeo flight models, as well as a few other developers.

Ok,

again, thank you for your suggestions!

Yes, I know Bernt's work, including the Milviz creations, and I know they're of the best we can get for MSFS / P3D :-)

Wow thanks, I missed that one.
