Airline: The story of PAN AM

Featured Replies

Saw this after looking at the Cargo Pilots video posted. Great to see who really started the whole Airline revolution and how pro or con the 747 affected the golden age of airline travel.

Just watched it. Thanks for the link.

Pan-Am and Juan Trippe have an amazing history.  I have been intrigued with it since I first read a book about it.  I guess partly because I remember flying with Pan-Am back in the late fifties and early sixties.

This is a very good video.  I really enjoyed it.

For more Pan Am history, there's a very good Juan Trippe biography, out of print but available here.  There's also a Kindle edition.  Really worthwhile.

I watched this a long time ago, probably because of a link on Airliners.  I too was struck by the notion of how the beautiful 747 helped pave the way towards the cattle car experience that modern day air travel has become.

The A380 is somewhat turning that ship around with airlines like Emirates and Singapore Airlines (lounges on aircraft, great food, awesome looking stewardess, etc). We most likely won't see another Pan Am (concerning the level of excellence in service and accommodations) in the US ever again. The only airline I would say that might try if they continue to grow is Virgin America.
