Pardon My Idiocy, But where do you download this, Doesnt seem to exist on the avsim Library and the link in the main post says the file cannot be found, Even once I've logged in to aerosoft forums.

Many Thanks,

Alexandre Da Camara

Edit: Don't Worry, I Saw that it had been withdrawn. :(

  • 1 month later...

Help! I'm confused - it's not unusual (in my best Tom Jones voice)!

Not having FS2Crew, I'm after a British replacement sound pack for the first officer (MCDU2 Checklist). I've just installed the Captian pack (very nice thank you!!) ... and I'm not sure whether a British version ever got produced. If it has, I'd appreciate a working link to it!

The first officer voice pack has been withdrawn by the author - unfortunately ...

Oh shame! Looks like I'll have to record them myself! I find some of the calls hard to understand in the default (female) voice - and often wonder what a "trust levver" is

Cut her some slack - she's German after all!!!

The withdrawn voice was a South London accent ("aaneeh ice" instead of "anti-ice") - took some time for me to familiarize with, as well.

The FS2Crew editions (button or voice) replace the default F/O voice, too - but that implies another purchase, of course.

EDIT:

You can still try the copilot voices of the locked version of Multi Crew Experience that comes with the Airbus at no additional cost. Shut down the built-in copilot, and switch to voice-controlled MCE.

What happened to AVSIM

Oooops! I didn't mean that to be an insult! I'll bet her English is 1000% better than my German!

I haven't installed MCE as "the boss" thinks I'm barking mad already ... me talking into a PC will get her reaching for that funny white jacket with sleeves that do up at the back (again).

Is it possible to install it then get at the sounds ... maybe copy them over?

I've made a start on re-recording. There are about 120 files ... shouldn't take *that* long <?>.

Any interest in a UK (male/relatively neutral accent) F/O sound set?

I love Dave Romford's South London voice acting (his real name is David Rogers, BTW, but that's a completely different AVSIM story ...).

The reason it has been withdrawn is, he published it when it wasn't yet 'polished' - so he received some not so nice comments by some not so thankful people who did not quite recognized the effort and labour related to creating a voice pack ...

Having said that:

Copying MCE files won't work because the phrases and sound file names differ a lot.

Creating your own replacement files for the built-in F/O surely is appreciated, but: The nasty thing is that the same sound file will be used in different scenarios. The duration of the playback must fit different situations (not too short and not too long) and also the intonation should match the "connecting" files before and after the file in question.

It's an awful lot of work of recording, testing, re-recording, tweaking, correcting and adjusting.

I will be happy to test your sounds, but pls. don't feel obliged to deliver in the first place: This road gets steeper with every step you're taking ...

Thanks for the MCE advice. In the couple of tests I've done so far, I have the original file and replacement visible at the same time, so can match volumes and timings as close as possible. Most of the files have a bit of a silent "spacer" at either side, which I aim to keep.

As soon as I have a set more or less ready, I'll PM you and you can have a listen. I'm pretty thick skinned, so wouldn't mind any feedback!

Not sure I understand, but if you want to share your voice and record the complete MCE co-pilot set, would be happy to send you the script.

No ... I wasn't thinking of doing the MCE version(s). Just the standard F/O checklist call-out sounds - the ones currently spoken in English by the German lady.

I'll probably go ahead and do it for my own benefit anyway - I just wondered whether anyone else would like the sound-set (and whether that would encourage me to do it all the more).

Announcement!

I've created a full set of 125 files to replace the default Aerosoft 1st Officer (female) British sound pack with UK English (male) equivalents. This is for the standard F/O and checklist call-outs, not MCE or FS2Crew.

The archive can be downloaded here: http://www.nzfsim.org/index.php?dsp=dload&fname=as_airbus_pnf_english_soundpack.zip
