August 25, 201312 yr Well, there was on my PC... and that was already after a few minutes. Honestly. ^_^ Maybe the weather itself didn't change but the depiction of it sure did!!! Just to be sure, did you disable Opus weather, when you tried the FSGRW demo? August 25, 201312 yr Not with the demo though. ^_^ Maybe that's why Dave didn't succeed in getting it to work. But I also posted that in the other topic about weather engines... Maybe I should have posted my initial question in that topic anyway because now there are two topics talking about autostart. ^_^ Ah, a bit too fast on the trigger there I did not try the demo, just bought it and never looked back
August 25, 201312 yr Sorry, I´m not seeing that issue either. But 40 Euro is worth turbulence for me, it´s the biggest issue with all weather programmes and FSX as a whole, so it´s fixed now. -Iain Watson-
August 25, 201312 yr Just to be sure, did you disable Opus weather, when you tried the FSGRW demo? Yes, I rebooted the PC before I started the flight. I only loaded FSGRW, TrackIR and FSX. BTW I also had some odd clouds disappearing when I reached them and coming back when I passed them but that might have had to do with FSX clipping things in an odd way. The clouds were low and I was flying right above them. Did look awful though.
August 25, 201312 yr All the manual is explaining is the way to specify some command line paraemeters, so that FSGRW will start with those options rather than requiring the user to manually select the options. Yes but Ernie, with respect, not everyone knows that "specifying some command line parameters" equates to accessing the Target field of an EXE's Proprties dialogue. It would be reasonable to have expected them to have given clearer instructions in the manual on doing this. Anyway, I am repeating myself across 2 different threads, for which I apologise! I've had my moan about that, and stick by it - but I'll shut up now.

August 25, 201312 yr On the fence here Guys would really like to hear some feedback from an opus user as to why this would be worth spending more money, dont care about DHM as ezdok is my favorite, any help with the short version of what my weather settings should be in fsx to use this would be great as I have the demo loaded, after a quick peak does look very promising. Thank you. Rich Sennett
August 25, 201312 yr I use the autostart parameters with a shortcut pinned to the task bar in windowed mode. Works great and doesn't require that I leave the sim since the task bar is still visible. After the weather is loaded, I run the pseudo full screen script (available in Avsim library) to remove the task bar, and I'm good to go. I keep a second shortcut on the desktop without the auto start script.
August 25, 201312 yr Yeah but autostarting is a big convenience, and if FSGRW has the feature, it figures they should want to actually tell us how it works! I had trouble initially also, but received help in another thread. From the developer's own words, do as follows: "Please find the icon of FSGRW on your desktop. Right click on it. Select PROPERTIES. Select the tab SHORTCUT. There you will see a line called TARGET. At the end of this line add the parameters you wish. Just make sure you have an empty space between every parameter and of course after the end of the line (before the parameters) as well." August 26, 201312 yr @Jeroen Like you, I've tried all the different weather engines and the only one that has given me realistic looking weather based on actual weather conditions is FSGRW. Once you've got it set up, it works great, apart from the odd crash, which they're working on. It is the only weather engine that has been able to show me what should be there. I used to use Active Sky but FSGRW provides me with real weather depiction based on real METAR info and that is all I want from a weather programme. I have REX, FEX and FSWC for sky, cloud and water textures. Ryzen 5800X3D, 64GB RAM, RTX 4090, Windows 11Link to my: Dynamic Flight Dispatch Tool
August 27, 201312 yr Commercial Member Hi! Just a quick note about the autostart parameters: I have updated the documentation for the next build (build 12) which now explains how to actually configure the short cut to get the desired results. Also, the fact that autostart doesn't work in evaluation mode is now included. Thank you for pointing out that this might not be intuitive for some (many!?) users . Regarding whether it's terrible documentation or I can't really say more than that we used terms common in IT (command line parameters), but I admit, that not all users might know what that term means. But hey, why filling forum posts with that issue instead of dropping us an e-mail ([email protected])? We do change things, if users find things hard to understand. Bernd
August 27, 201312 yr Bernd "autostart doesn't work in evaluation mode is now included" When was this added as I downloaded it a couple of days ago wondering, would like to try this out - thank you. Rich Sennett

Autostart only works in dynamic weather mode, which is not available in the evaluation version. Bernd
August 27, 201312 yr Best and simplest little weather app out there, Bernd! Many thanks. Your autostart is now rolled into a VB 2012 FSX Startup app, and it works just fine. Up 'till now, I had only been interested in weather applications for the configurable ambience - the "look" which they brought to the sim: yours makes it a moving, shifting environment that changes as the flight progresses. All others have seemingly dealt the same weather over the entire flight, with little or no effect on the aircraft. I love it!
