Ideal rate of climb on takeoff guide marks missing from ND display

Featured Replies

Somehow when I was re-configuring the NGX 700 for use in Southwest Virtual Airline flights, I lost the vertical Chevron bars in the PFD!  I am sure there is some little setting in the PMDG setup menu(s) but stupid me, I can't seem to find it.  If anyone has a quick path to the setting within the menus to turn that back on, I'd be very appreciative!

Flight director shows you the pitch you hold after takeoff. Just config the cockpit correctly to get it. And yes, you can takeoff without F/D.

Chevron bars? You'd better point out on screenshot or just try to find it in FCOM vol.2 displays section (pages 520-549 of manual).

It's on page 1 of the display options. Single cue or Split axis FD bars. Unless you toggled that option yourself, I would bet that your Southwest Airlines is actually pointing at a different airplane's tail number file.

I will pour over the manual and then respond- thanks to one and all for your help.  YES, the F/Ds are ON, I always use them.  I went through and  changed a bunch of options for the plane because the A/P wasn't engaging sometimes (I turned off the 'realistic A/P behavior'... I must have shut off the bars.  Yes, somewhat like the picture above this post... but not YELLOW, they were blue or magenta or some other color than yellow if I recall correctly.  I'm betting the "split axis" is what I'm missing... checking now...

Working on it...

According to the FCOM manual part 2, pg 526 I am missing the Flight Director Bar (Magenta) AND the Airplane Symbol (relative to the horizon) which is black inverted "V" with white edges..

They both used to be on my PFD, but somehow they both disappeared and darned if I can figure how to bring them back (?)  I got the lower one back by selecting SINGLE CUE.  The magenta FD bars I don't know how to bring them on... I think they "appear" under certain conditions (e.g. when FDs are both on and TOGA is used for takeoff?)  I'll figure it out...

DOH!

Is this what you're talking about? (Circled in red)

I am missing the magenta bar just below the yellow thing that you circled.  I have the BLACK bar.  the magenta bar is above the black bar at takeoff.  You lift the nose until the two bars merge together, this indicates proper climb out angle.

Anyone with a tip on how to get the magenta bar in the above pic to reappear - please share with me?

thank you.

That's the Flight Director. You have to have both FD switches on the MCP on, and press TOGA. If you haven't read through them yet, the tutorial flights that comes with the NGX are a great resource. Even if you're familiar with other aircraft, the NGX is different due to the level of simulation.

Thanks for the advice.  I haven't had time to fly today- but will try something tomorrow.  Hopefully, the Magenta FD bar -will- reappear.

Just a quick question, are your IRSs aligned?

Marko Milivojević

Yes, and thanks for that idea.  I align the IRS during preflight every time, as I begin from cold and dark cockpit.
