August 30, 201312 yr Author Do traffic .bgls loaded in FSX count towards the limit, even if the traffic is set to none? Just wondering because I use Traffic 360 and it seems that FSX got a little tiny bit slower when loading but not really noticed anything while flying if that traffic is off. August 31, 201312 yr RAM and Virtual memory are not the same thing. 8GB of RAM is recommended, and default paging file - leave it to system managed. This if you have Windows 7 / 64bit which is also highly recommended and absolutelly the best for FSX. To avoid OOM errors: - set Texture_Max_Load in fsx.CFG to maximum 2048, never above - REX clouds 1024, max 2048, DXT optimized - Microsoft patch for heap limitation applied: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947246 - i use SceneryConfigEditor every time before i start FSX, to enable only scenery i need for my next flight http://sourceforge.net/projects/fs-sceditor/files/V1.0/ Important is to disable all payware, especially photoscenery. I enable only 1-2 continents(2 for long haul)and 2-3 airports. - Virtal memory management should be system managed on windows 7 / 64bit(don't change default paging file like some people suggest) Will disabling scenery in areas you won't be flying really do any difference? Reason I ask is I've been thinking about this myself but someone told me it won't do any difference since FSX will not load any scenery that won't be needed for the area you fly in which makes sense. Why load detailed scenery for US for example if you're flying in Europe and vice versa. Now I'm posting using my computer instead which seems to work much better... Just downloaded SceneryConfigEditor-1.0-windows64.exe (I'm using Win7 x64) but when I try to launch the file nothing happens? I've tried both double-clicking the file as well as running the file as Administrator by right-clicking the file but the result is the same...nothing. Hmm...

Happened to me too... the AVSIM forums are quite busy lately... but that is good - shows how the FS community is alive and kicking. I think it also has to do a little with the 777 about to come out. Well, let us know what your experience is with that tool. If you don't have any OOM issues, I don't see why you would have to disable the scenery, but it might be a good precaution measure and helps FSX use use less VAS. What is your MAX_TEXTURE_LOAD? August 31, 201312 yr Funny you mention the PMDG 777 because that was actually my first thought when I had problems so I went over to PMDG's site just to see if the 777 was released :lol: True what you say...why disable scenery when I don't have any OOM errors normally but thought it would be interesting to try this out. Anyway as I wrote above I couldn't get the SceneryConfigEditor-1.0-windows64.exe to execute for some reason so guess I'll just skip this for now but will keep it in mind should I run into any OOM issues. I always run FSX with TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024 since I never noticed any real big difference running textures in higher resolution than this so guess that might be the main reason I don't have any OOM errors.

But with SceneryConfigEdit you can do this before you start FSX, and you can check and fix scenery errors. Very useful tool Zeljko Budovic

August 31, 201312 yr Noticed there was a later (beta) version of the SceneryConfigEditor available when I checked again and this version worked fine so I now did a test where I disabled all default FSX regions where I normally don't fly but in my case there was no difference at all. Of course I could also disable all payware addon airports except for the airports I'll be flying for a particular flight which would maybe do a difference to VAS but keep doing that for each and every flight feels a bit cumbersome I think although it's very easy with this scenery tool. I guess for now I'll just leave this but will keep the tool should I need it down the road.
August 31, 201312 yr To be thorough and perform a complete test I now also tried disabling all my payware airports (I have 30 of them) and that did a difference to VAS but the difference was only about 100 MB so guess how much benefit you'll have form disabling scenery like this has very much to do with what kind of scenery you have installed. I have no photo scenery installed for example and guess that as been mentioned earlier is where you will see the most difference using this method.
