Simulated failures

Skippers, by watching at some of the videos on youtube, I see quite a few NON-NORMALs (with associated checklists - [] icon) popping out on the EICAS.

Anyone willing to expand on the FAILURES (sys failures, eng fail, instrument failures and so on) this 777 can simulate, if any?

And, if there are failures to simulate, can you set the ones you want (or just random failures) to happen when you want them to?

That would be awesome ;)

Thanks Scandinavian (by the way, nice tutorials, thanks!!), I would....if I had bought the sim already..

I was waiting for those infos in order to decide whether to invest 90$ or not.

I'm more interested in simulating non-normals, and this seems to be the sim to buy if it can simulate some.

I tried writing to PMDG but no answers so far.

Well, no surprise on that! They must be VERY busy with the new release.

So, if some of you are willing to have a look for me I would much appreciate.

Honestly, the reason I told you to go look for yourself is that there are a TON of failures in there, and they're all grouped out.  It would take forever to list them all, or even get screenshots of all of them.  I can say that you won't be disappointed.  There are more than you'd see in the NGX.

Perfect!!

That's what I was hoping to hear ;)

Would you have an idea if you can select to make them happen automatically when you need them to come up (let's say, engine fail at V1; or some electrical issue reaching, don't know, 25000ft), or if you have to  turn them on manually?

And last, Would it be possible to make them come up randomly at sim discretion?

(just to give it a more realistic touch)

Altitude isn't a trigger, but you can enter a time delay, yes.

Yes, you can have the sim randomly trigger failures, in addition to service based failures (that trigger based on the estimated service life of various items).

NOTE: For any failure, we strongly recommend that you use the Quick
Reference Handbook to practice diagnosing the problem. The QRH
makes it extremely easy. Simply look up the warning light or symptoms
that you see in the QRH index and then follow the checklist provided!

NOTE 2: Some failures, particularly those related to engine overheat
warnings, pneumatic bleed over-pressures and door related warnings can
have multiple meanings. For example, and engine overheat warning may
require that you shut down an engine, or it may simply require a reduction
in thrust. A door warning may simply be a faulty warning, or it may
indicate a door seal failure that requires emergency action. This makes
the simulation exciting, and encourages you to use the Quick Reference
Handbook to follow the trouble shooting procedures to deduce what type
of failure you are dealing with!
NOTE 3: We suggest you read the DETAILS AND QUIRKS OF THE
PMDG 777-200LR/F section. You will learn some interesting things about
the simulation you are about to fly!

I've had this nose tire balance failure. Does anyone know what is it? I've tried to google for it and haven't really found anything. I found it listed as failure in the introduction manual but no explanation for it. I also didn't notice anything strange in taxiing or takeoff/landing roll.

Happens when you hit the nose wheel too hard.

Your taxi speed during turns might be too high - 10 kts GS max is the recommendation I think. Taking sharp high speed turns on the ground will eventually trigger this failure. Hard landings (smacking the nose wheel on the runway during derotation) might do it as well, but I'm not sure about that. This info comes from the NGX, I assume it is the same with the 777.
