Loss of altitude alert during approach

Featured Replies

Gentlemen... we should not be chastising people for reinstalling an add-on, or FSX.

If the user has the time and patience to do such a thing it's a valid step in regard to troubleshooting. WE may decide it's too much trouble to reinstall as a first step, but others may not be of the same opinion, others may be more patient.

As for "no point, because if the error didn't occur immediately it's not a corrupt install" then no, that is not a valid hypothesis. I've had a number of occasions over the years where a corrupt install didn't throw up an error until after a protracted delay.

Reinstalling is safe, and a valid troubleshooting step that eliminates an important variable, who are we to tell others not to it as the first variable to eliminate.

Again... as I said, I've had this issue too. Lost all callouts except the 10 call. Fine for a number of flights, all variables the same, and then suddenly no callouts.

So whats the problem then?, if the first one works, use that.

I'm using it, what do you thing ? I am not stupid !

Dude, I am trying to help you here in my free time!

I did not say you are stupid nor did I mean to imply that.

Relax!

I just dont know what the problem is now.

You have an Audio audio controller that works....you are using it.....so is the problem solved then?

In that case click "SOLVED"!

Of course reinstalling is vallid but unless you think you might have missed one of those critical points I just mentioned....it should not be on top of your list.

The problem is that most dont troubleshoot at all or very little.

Many dont even read the manual, nor any FSX tips and tricks, nor do they give the Forum here a couple of hours to respond to their question.

So when they reinstall....without reading about what they might have done wrong during the first install....they do it exactly the same (not as Admin...Antivir still running, running an unstable overclock, etc etc) and then they wonder that it did not help!

Many many sim colleges have had problems after removing scenery addons (I know that is another subject) but it shows that deinstalling, reinstalling is not the preferred way to solve problems with FSX.

And itnis not ok to give potential new simmers the idea that they can just go ahead and deinstall/reinstall as much as they want and everything will be just fine.

It might be ok, or it might make everything worse!

Hi,

Sorry about that.

I tried the 3 sound possibilities, only one is working well, but the problem is not solved for the time being. This should not be the cause of the issue.

Remember my first post, the altitude call outs was working initially, then disappear. That should not be a wrong installation.

Why not considering a bug ?

Ok.

I am sorry too, but I realy dont understand what the case is now.

So although it might get annoying I have to ask again.

Only one of those audio controllers is working correctly.

Ok, now...

You mean in Windows while playing movies, etc, or

You mean it works correctly while flying the 777?

With respect, that makes no sense. Why on Earth not? Your critical points can still be addressed after the reinstall. And if it so happens that the issues are caused by corrupted data, then no further troubleshooting is required because the problem is fixed in one foul swoop. Thus an efficient and logical strategy. Why on Earth spend days troubleshooting, when an individual is perfectly prepared to spend some time reinstalling and eliminating an important variable.

This is a personal choice, his choice and perfectly valid. WHEN a reinstall is attempted isn't carved in stone.

The problem is that most dont troubleshoot at all or very little.

Reinstalling IS troubleshooting. It's part of the process. Just because you reinstall at a later date than others, doesn't mean their approach is invalid. They just assign that particular variable as a higher priority to eliminate than you.

So when they reinstall....without reading about what they might have done wrong during the first install....they do it exactly the same (not as Admin...Antivir still running,

Errr... then the issue in that case WAS a dodgy install, so they definitely need to reinstall. And you shouldn't complain that they have reinstalled. Only that they may not have installed correctly.

I'm pretty sure the OP is sensible enough to install utilizing the proper procedures, especially second time around.

In fact, I have sound for everything (video, music and other simulators or games), even the PMDG 777.

But after few flights with the PMDG 777, and only this aircraft, I am not able to hear the RA calls.

Strange, isn't it ?

It needs to be remembered that I have this issue too.

The more of us that have this issue, the more it becomes likely it's a bug.

Ok....you do things your way...I do them my way.

And I keep suggesting people my way and you suggest them your way.

Its up to the customer which way he chooses....I have no problem with that.

In my book a reinstall is not troubleshooting.....but trying to take short cuts.

But hey I am no hardware/sotware specialist.....just verry coutious when it comes to my precious and delicate FSX install.

I did read a lot of things about FSX (and PC tech related to FSX) though and I try to learn from the problems others are having.

So if I see posts of (increased) problems others are having after they deinstalled and reinstalled something from FSX....I try my utmost best not to do that.

And I pass that one to others.

Thats all.

It needs to be remembered that I have this issue too.

The more of us that have this issue, the more it becomes likely it's a bug.

And what have you tried to do so far to fix it?

(that is an honest question, not sarcastic)

Ok so you reinstalled....everything was fine with sounds in the 777.......you changed nothing and did not save any flights or default FSX flight nor panels states....and after a few time flying you have the problem again?

Even on that one audio controller that was working?

You are right, that would be strange.

If we knew where these sounds are located (somewhere in the FSX folder I guess) then we could see if they are still there.

Rob Robson

Of course it's not trying to take short cuts. It's eliminating a likely variable.

And what have you tried to do so far to fix it?

Nothing, I'm too busy refurbishing my bathroom.   When I've had the issue more than once, and I've stopped ruminating about the T7 trimming issue myself and others have, I may give it more consideration.

Someone sent me the info where the aircrafts sound are located.

You can find the altitude callout sounds in "main FSX folder"/sounds/PMDG/777X/CAWS directory.

Take a look in there and if they are playable wav. sounds, try if they work.

Dont mess with them otherwise though!

Hi,

The sounds are working when I'm click on it manually. Good idea to check that anyway.

Thanks,

Vincent

Hmmm ok.

Have you tried the tutorial flight?

Change nothing, fly it with the way PMDG has set it up, dont change anything, no equipment config changes, nothing.

Hi,

Sorry, I was on hollyday for a week.

After another clean installation and without changing anything, I tried an ILS approach with a quick setup.

I had the altitude calls, but not aht approaching minimum and minimum. The second flight was the same.

After the third flight with the same setup (not a saved situation), I have lost the altitude calls.

For those tests, I didn't change nay of the setup on aircraft or equipment, or anything else.

I hope it can help.

Vincent
