Display of alternate airports

Recommended Posts

In real life and if I recall on some of the beta shots of this bird alternate airports beyond the set range of the ND were displayed with an arrow showing which direction they were off the screen. Anyone know if this is modelled and if so, how to display it.

Many thanks.

This is a feature in the Alternate page in the FMC, not the FIX. You see people like myself using the FIX page to draw range arcs and bearing to airports/radio aids for situational awareness and ETOPS.

To get the arrows pointing to x-airport, you must enter the airport in the ALTN page on the FMC. Also you should have airports selected on the EFIS with maximum range (640nm) and that x-airport be within 180 degrees of the nose. If it's behind you, then you wouldn't see it unless you turn around or switch to compass mode on the ND. If it's closer than 640nm then you will not get the arrow pointing to it - just the airport location/ICAO code with an 'A' in the middle of the airport donut.

To delete a manual entry in the ALTN page, just delete it and that field will go back to auto - just like how the VOR section works on the NAV RAD.
