FSINN Settings So we Can all see your new Shiny Plane

Recommended Posts

Hello all - there are quite a few users that don't have FSINN setup correctly - and as a consequence it means the rest of us don't get to see you properly in your shiny new 777! instead we see you online as ZZZZ and then some default aircraft.

post-154352-0-16565000-1378652578.jpg

This is what to do to fix (well one way)

The reason is because you don't have edit current used plane set - likely because you have a FSINN.cfg file in the folder to make FSINN ignore it. That was because people didn't want FSINN using that model as AI. However you can make it so it doesn't.

Step 1 - Remove the FSINN.cfg file from your simobjects/aircrafts/whatever your plane is

Step 2 - with FSINN running

post-154352-0-19213200-1378652585.jpg

Press the Set Button and you will get this

Make sure the only use lowres models is checked

post-154352-0-80474900-1378652583.jpg

Press the Advanced button

Press the Pla Button

Then on the config tab select Edit Current Used Plane.post-154352-0-85633300-1378652580.jpg

Make sure that the Acft Res is set to H and fill in any other user parts that are showing missing or incorrect –i.e its showing as say B777 or something wrong.

You will then see in the config for types your plane listed and your AI ones, with AI using Lores so this will be selected over yours, here you can edit the models to display correct airlines, etc.

That’s it fixed – you will now show correctly to everyone, but wont get overloaded Hi res Models as AI.

You may need to check, but generally a shared model - once you configure the one it automatically configures the rest the same - the only thing you may need to do still is allocate the ICAO to the airline - because there is no longer a online repository(still beyond belief that someone not written a new VATSIM pilot app) you can find sometimes it doesnt read the info from the CFG and so doesnt know to allocate that version as UAE or BAW etc.

So if you look at my screen shot, you can see I have a couple of liveries for the 777, and I only edited the BAW one, and it automatically set the rest to High Res and called B77L or F. All My AI are lowres and again I only set the model once and it replicated it - the only thing I have to do sometimes is go through and allocate the airline ICAO and thats mainly due to no repository and using my traffic models.

I just find it really annoying on VATSIM seeing all these ZZZZ models and wrong a/c types or airlines because people not put their settings right.

James thank you for the detailed info.

A quick FSINN one: I was getting ZZZZ with my B777F Emirates livery even though I have no fsinn.cfg file in that folder. When I was manually editing the plane, I tried setting the aircraft model to B77L but the window remained shaded in red. Only when I input B772 it got green. Any idea why FSINN doesn't like B77L?

Also what should I put for aircraft type? I see you have L2J, but what is that standing for? Thanks in advance

L2J is Land based aircraft with 2 engines that are Jet engines.

Some other examples are:

First column

L = Land

A = Amphibian

S = Sea plane

H = Helicopter

.. I'm not sure but maybe G = Glider and/or B = Balloon/Airship/Dirigible?

Second Column

The number of engines. numbers go from 0 (glider) up to  8 (B52) - (it might go up to 9 but only to single digits, so no 10)

Third Columb

J = Jet

T = Turboprop

P = Piston Engine (prop)

So the 777-200LR is an L2J, a 737-600 is an L2J, a BAe146 is an L4J, a DH8D is an L2T, a Robinson R22 is an H1P, etc.

FSinn doesn't seem to have an in-built native knowledge of what a B77L is. I'v resorted to using B772 myself, but filing the flightplan as B77L (modify this to H/B77L/Q for Heavy / B77L / with RVSM/TCAS/Transponder/RNAV/ADS-B capability.)

You put B77L in the right side under "user" on that screen shot were it says Acft ICAO code.

As well, the TCAS designation goes in front of the aircraft type, not behind like you state. In your example above, a narrowbody aircraft would have it like, T/B738/Q. The "T" indicates TCAS equipped. So for a heavy like the 777 in your example, the ICAO standard of H/B77L/Q would actually mean heavy-non TCAS equipped. What your supposed to have is B/B77L/Q. The B/ means "heavy" with TCAS equipment. The B is a combination of "H" & "T". I see a few getting it right on vatsim but most don't.

Neither T/ or B/ are valid since about 2005.

The correct method is

B738/Q

or

H/B77L/Q

Aircraft without what used to be the FAA's T/ have no business being in controlled airspace.

B/ used to mean aircraft that were "B"oth a Heavy AND as a bonus also had a TCAS.

Aircraft that would have been simply H/ back in those days don't get airworthiness certified anymore. Can you imagine a Heavy jet, heavy enough to qualify for the "Heavy" epithet, not having a TCAS?

Can't wait till the new Vatsim Pilot connection client in development is released and we get ICAO codes instead of old, no longer in use FAA codes.

Why?

Because the USA uses FAA codes, and everywhere else in Not-America (Yes, that's all of the other 195 countries that aren't the United States) don't.

Nevertheless, while we are forced to use the FAA codes, we might as well use codes valid in 2013, rather than years out of date.

All you need to do for your plane to show properly to other players is go to edit current used plane, and enter B772, L2J, your airline code (UAL, BAW), and the wake code (H) plus the resolution code (normal works fine).

Everything else in other options is just for how you see everything, not what other pilots see.

All you need do is edit the ICAO.cfg to include B77L and it's all working like it should. Tried it across the weekend in the UK and it picked up all the flights with B77L.

Tim, is this how it's supposed to look:

Yes...that's right, just make sure you configure the aircraft in the ICAO default and custom windows. Because others are using B772 while flying in VATSIM, instead of B77L, I've also made FSINN use the same AI models for B77L and B772 for ease of use.

This has actually been changed. H/ now assumes TCAS. B/ is no longer in use.

EDIT: Oops, see that it's already been said.

Everything else in other options is just for how you see everything, not what other pilots see.

If other pilots havn't edited their systems, then a B77L will show up as... the default whatever plane, so for Squawkbox that'll be the big grey triangle with a questionmark for a tail.

FSinn users will get either a Cessna C172 or Learjet LJ42.

The only way THEY will see YOU in the right plane is if they edit their configs.

If you tell Vatsim you are in a B772, then everyone sees you as a Boeing 777 at least, so you will be about the right size, and not in a single piston prop the size of half a B77L engine.

Of course if they HAVE set up the B77L config they will see you as... wait for it... a Boeing 777-200 :D

So instead of disadvantaging what is going to be the majority, so that you can have a nice shiny L there instead of a 2, maybe... just maybe we can work with what we have till this new Vatsim client comes out.

I suspect it will be out when the PMDG 747v2 is out or so. When?

- When it's ready -
