777 Skidding

Recommended Posts

Hiya,

This morning I was doing a few touch 'n' goes with the 777 just to get a feel for the bird and noticed some unusual behaviour that I haven't come across in any other aircraft.

Right after roll-out from the turns the plane skidded quite hard for about three to four seconds. It took a lot of rudder and aileron to keep the slip bar centered and I was caught completely by surprise. This seems to happen no matter how gently I roll out of the turn.

Now I understand that if PMDG have modelled this behaviour into their 777, it's like that in the real plane. However, I'd really appreciate any tips to minimise this skidding, besides the obvious "use rudder".

Regards

Edit: I probably should have posted this in the 777 forum. Could a mod please move it? Sorry about that.

Do you happen to use that A2A Air, Land, Sea addon?

Nope, just the bog standard (if you can really call it that) PMDG 777.

I believe the O.P. is referring to behavior in the air.

Mike got it, but I should have made this clearer, skidding as in this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skid_(aerodynamic)

However after a bit more test flying, I did notice that it only tends to happen at idle power. I guess the solution would be to avoid making descending turns at idle thrust.

Ah, you're trying to pull off this stunt are ya?   :P
