Too Bright To See

Why our panel lights are too bright to see the darkness of the night? Many developers include on their projects the dimmable panel lights, others will do it on future like

 

"Carenado", but we can not still flying without looking throug the window.

Here is the Malibu with the panel lights at 5 %.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Please developers add dimmable panel lights option to make our flights more realistic.

Have to ask, how did you achieve the dimmed lights? Because you are right, they are way to bright on most Carenado planes.

Hi CoolP, the answer my friend is the "Photoshop", y had to work on 4 files to get the light bulbs calm down. :lol:

Y will give you something better, give me a couple of days and y will post a tutorial so you will be able to improve all your planes adjusting the brightness and contrast settings own preferences, believe me it is so easy. :P  :P  :P

Here we go,

 

1) Get a "Photoshop" and the "ImageTool" soft.

 

2) Backup the "Texture.Common" folder from "Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Carenado P46T Malibu JetProp DL\Texture.Common".

 

3) Extract the "CPCSDLX_4_C_night", "CPCSDLX_7_C_night", "CPCSDLX_8_C_night" and "Gauges_1_night" so we will be working on them.

 

4) we have to go from DXT5 to a photoshop readable format, follow the image.

 

 

 

5) The file is 32-Bit now so open it with the photoshop.

 

6) Use this Photoshop tool...

 

 

 

7) Link this area so we will be working over there...

 

 

 

8) From now on you can dimmer up or down like you want, follow this point...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

9) And now with mid tones...

 

 

 

10) Now equal colour...

 

 

 

 

 

11) Finally repeat only 8 step and you will get this...

I told you it was wizardry. :P Trachemys, I'm one of those lazy and not talented people (I also don't have Photoshop), so would it be ok for you to upload those reworked textures to the library or somewhere else? I think your tutorial indeed serves the purpose of teaching a person how to fish, as Jesse put it. So thumbs up for the efforts, including the ones to come. :smile:

Yes no problem uploading any modified texture.

What it is no allowed is uploading any original texture without modifications.

So I think we should be safe. Wadda you say?

12) You can do the same with this area... it is too bright for me.

 

 

 

13) you can also do the same with all other files and planes and pictures, (my mother-in-law looks so much better with those changes on photographs there is no facial hair).

 

For example y do not like at all the light bulb shine over these gauge...

 

 

 

So...

 

 

 

14) The last point is about the ambient lights, y don't fall in love with them, so you can also switch them on with the overhead lights together and dissapear them from your flights forever. 

 

Change the lights configuration on the CFG file (Don't forget the backup).

Yeah, the default Carenado lighting just is way too bright. I like the dark set the most but one has to be cautious as to just copying some rw pictures. What I mean is that the camera in place leads to the impression that some gauges are very bright, even overexposed.

 

That's not how the real thing looks but how the photo was taken in regard to ISO settings and things. Other settings also affect the colour impression, so a good and 'unbiased' photo would be something to look for in the first place.

 

Gauge manufactures take care of building readable, at least reasonably dimmable, devices. Means that super bright LED digits may be more of an annoyance than a help for the pilot.

Y agree but what y was trying to explain is the fact that in real life the night flights are most of the time only with backlit gauge on and with panel light pretty much dimmed down, like on the posted pics, y know that most of them are overexposed due to the shutter speed, etc etc. "Carenado" planes are no doubt masterpieces and the only one and tinny complain y have is the panel bright cockpit lights.

May be on future this point will be fixed like the posibilities of creating a flight plan like we are able to do with rxp or garmin 1000 on Flight one planes. Y think this is the next step "carenado" should take to be on the top with other developers like PMDG etc etc. remember the latest PMDG products that have dimmable lights like the A2A 172 have.
