September 11, 201312 yr I don't know if I will do this but I didn't like what I saw w/ FTXG in areas of California where I fly a lot--except at night! What FTXG did for night flying is fabulous but I didn't like what I saw for pretty much everything else. I would love it if I could have the lighting but not the rest in the US and retain all of FTXG for the rest of the planet. Is it possible for them to coexist do we know? It might be a little early to say this as I've be so enamored w/ dusk flying I haven't looked super close to day time textures from FTXG so just reviewing the options... One unfortunate reality is that there is no longer an option in FTX Central to return to default FSX. Thanks! September 12, 201312 yr Author Do you mean GEX? Yes, sorry I should have said GEX. I'm not Nick but yes, they will overwrite, as well as backup I'm guessing the nice lighting might stay since GEX might not have files to overwrite them with? September 12, 201312 yr Gex files should overwrite and work. The Orbx lights are autogen, so Nick will not have them annotated on his textures, so you won't have any 3d lighting there. You could activate utx lighting though if you have that.
September 12, 201312 yr I know that GEX does have night lighting, how its going to work with what you have I dont know, Jay
September 12, 201312 yr I know that GEX does have night lighting, how its going to work with what you have I dont know, GEX DOES NOT have night lighting. UTX - a landclass product that works seamlessly with GEX offers night lighting - in a similar way to FTX Global. Regards, Jeremy Chesney
September 12, 201312 yr From the Flight 1 website... Complete coverage of North America (United States, Canada and Alaska). Enhanced textures to assist in rendering clear visuals as low as 250-500ft. High volume autogen layout with optimizations for maximum performance. Update system checks for updates of all installed GEX products at once. Upgrade patches provided for UTX USA\Canada and UT Alaska users. Automated install order of GEX regions as they are added or removed. Synchronizes all GEX regions. No texture switching between regions. Full texture support for SceneryTech and Xclass landclass products. 1m/pixel - 1024x1024 Textures - No excessive resolution to render. Automated file backup system with merged region backup storage. Single interface readout and control for all GEX region products. Textures derived from licensed Aerial and Satellite imagery. 2D enhancements produce simulated 3D depth in textures. Direct product links from the interface to add new regions. FSX tree render issue addressed in autogen annotation. Automated one click/browse move of backup directory. Includes all seasons and night lighting environment. Realistic custom designed night lighting textures. Real time region status interface readout. Improved default FSX road night lighting. Universal user manual for all products. Highly detailed aerial views. Natural seasonal blending. Jay

September 12, 201312 yr GEX does not give the orbs of light as seen in UTX and FTX global. GEX makes the light from buildings much more realistic. Regards, Jeremy Chesney
September 12, 201312 yr From the Flight 1 website... Includes all seasons and night lighting environment. Realistic custom designed night lighting textures. Improved default FSX road night lighting. Probably a typo. I can guarantee you there is no 3D night lighting with GEX. They're talking about night textures and road textures at night which is far superior to what default FSX has. Nature Boy
September 12, 201312 yr Author Noel, I'm totaly confused as to what you are asking, please rephrase the question. Yes I'm asking if the 3D lighting (so much nicer than UTX lighting which I never cared for) from FTXG would be retained if I reinstalled GEX. As I recall I didn't actually uninstall GEX, I just changed its status to disabled. I'm guessing if I reenable it those textures would then display again w/o the need to reinstall, but I'm not certain. I'm going to keep exploring the FTXG day time textures and see if they're good enough for the US itself. It seemed there was too much uniformity of color in the areas I flew in so it did not seem like an upgrade over GEX except as I say for nighttime and also for everywhere else since I didn't have GEX global only GEX NA.
