Quality and standard of the PMDG JS41?

Featured Replies

I bought the 737 and 4100 at the same time... once I started the js4100 the 737 sits in the hangar..

1 - Great plane for flying ...

2 - Not a jet ...so no FL30 :-)...

3 - Easy to toast an engine - see #1 :-)

This has been by far my favorite plane for  FSX ...

I think they chose it because its a bit of a beast, slippery for sure and a tendancy to blow up with an auto pilot that needs a bit of attention.

Having said that it was for me the most realistic plane before the 777 and the NGX ranks third.

IMO. its a must have turbo prop if you dont have one or you dont own the q400 already

I see.  By the sound of the replies so far, seems like it's good but not outstanding. (aside joke:  I say to friend - "I'm just going to stand outside for a sec, if any body's looking for me, just tell them I'm out-standing" ;), sorry if that was lame, I like that joke ^^).

I do already own the Q400 and love it because 60% of the time I look outside the window (in the glide path of rwy 01 YBBN), I see QLink Q400s overhead.  I'll probably hold this bird off for now, save up for NGX or T7 expansions and get an EFB when my demo time limit is up ;)

Cheers guys!

Learning to use and getting use to FSX!

Its very immersive and needs to be handled by the book. Also its very sim-friendly as the routes it has flown are quite short.

If you read the dedicated sub-forum here at avsim, you' ll see that it was kind of abandoned by its creators, further patches or bug corrections never came. Personally I can't use FMC, and had to use a FSUIPC script to get cold and dark. Some of the important operator repaints are still lacking, but even so its a great addon.

Yea that's the kind of feeling I was getting as well, but was unable to put it to words, that's why I'm a bit hesitant about getting it, even though it's a PMDG product.  I hope the DC6 they will ditch the "lite" idea and do a decent job on it.

They did the plane because RSR flew them...

They did the aircraft to make money I would say :)

Robert having thousands of hours in it was propably imperative to get it as authentic as it is.

Awesome simulation and the VC is beautiful.

It's pretty good, just below the Q400 in my opinion. There's an FMC with limited vnav functionality, kinda like the FMC in the Q400. PMDG consider it a 'lite' because it doesn't have all the full features, like a systems failure module. I believe a couple of the pages on the FMC are missing as well. The systems aren't modelled in a light fashion tho, at least from what I understand. I'm not rated on the JS41 myself, so I wouldn't know, but it certainly feels believable.

I was under the impression it is standard PMDG quality and not a "lite" option. Personally I LOVE the looks of this addon, but I have no need or desire for in depth systems modeling, so if there is a get in and go "lite" option I would love to know about it.

Don't waste your money.. The aircraft isn't nearly as good as the NGX..

Having held a run/taxi certification on the JS4100 for over 10 years, I can say that PMDG came very close to approximating the look and feel of that aircraft. Comparing software that came out in 2009 to the NGX and declaring it a waste of money completely misses the mark. The PMDG J41 is a fine piece of software and worth purchasing IMHO. Regards

Couldn't agree more. They should've gone with PT6's or P118's but they had to be different...

Well, nothing compares to a PT6 LOL! The Garrett 331-14's were a huge improvement over the -10's and 12's. though. Ultimately, the aircraft failed to gain commercial success and I believe, less than 200 were ever made. I do like flying it though. Regards

We don't know what the DC6 will be, but I don't think the J41 would be categorized as light.  The J41 doesn't have some of the failure options that it's bigger siblings have, and I think PMDG might have marketed it as the beginning of a line of easier to develop aircraft to fill up the downtimes,  but it seems to me that it is an otherwise genuine PMDG airplane in most respects.  It's annoying loud and does have a few issues that probably would have been fixed by a service pack that we know isn't coming.

The story about the DC6 as I remember it was some time ago RSR announced it to be "lite", in that it's not aimed to be of the type of work and depth as the jets.  Regardless, I like steam gauged planes, so that's why I kept an eye out.

Only recently I saw a video with a nice VC in it, being me and all graphics orientated, that caught my eye.  At the end they said it was JS41, and after all these time I had not looked at any PMDG turboprops, so I was thinking... what have I missed?!

I thought he said that it would be a full simulation as one would expect from PMDG. However, he said (I think) that it just wouldn't be as detailed as an A2A aircraft with accusim-like features as they dont want to step on A2As toes too much.

My bad, just checked with the post, indeed I got the wrong impression.

Well, in any case the quality and the standard of the JS41 is very high, certainly above lite developers like QW. If you're in need of a turbo prop and you already got the Q400 then by all means, go for the JS41. It's very good

Regarding previous post about the Aircraft being annoyingly loud, That J41 and its older sibling the J32's are every bit that loud in regards to engine noise in the cockpit. In fact it's difficult to communicate with ATC without headsets. Regards

Some of the important operator repaints are still lacking, but even so its a great addon.

Which operators would that be?
