Locking onto the opposite ILS beam during landing at KJSC Rwy 30L

Featured Replies

To Fellow Simmers,

I was landing my 737NGX into KSJC Rwy 30L using ILS approach (Freq = 110.90, CRS = 303, ID = I-SJC).  I tuned the freq according to the "ILS or LOC/DME RWY 30L" chart during approach to IAF at GILRO.  For some reason it locked on to the opposite ILS beam for Rwy 12R (having the same freq of 110.90 but CRS=123 and ID= I-SLV), so it turned my landing from a straight-in ILS to a "back course" landing.  I am using the default KSJC from FSX.

Did anyone experience this? What went wrong or how to correct it to lock onto the right beam I-SJC?  Thanks for any input.

Joe

Yep, same frequencies in different directions could be a problem of FSX.

To fix that install AFCAD, ADX or ADE, select airport, and for both runways turn off backcourse option.

...

Make sure you're on a heading that will intercept for the correct runway before pressing LOC or APP. In the USA, ATC is required to vector you to an ILS with no more than a 30 degree intercept (in your case, somewhere between 270-330 depending on which side of the ILS you're on) That's a good place to start.

That won't change anything, as KSJC has the same frequency for both directions in reality.

Known bug in FSX when both runways share the same ILS freq, it happens to me with the PMDG MD11 and other payware aircraft.

I first ran into it in 2010 when I got the MD11 and at that time I was told it can happen to some people, but does not happen to most.

I was also told an addon can be causing it.  As I recall someone mentioned MTX and I did have MTX installed.  Once I knew what was wrong I just started to land manually when it happens rather than send countless hours trying to track down an addon that may or may not be causing it.

Mostly it will work. I have done that with EGKK. If you change AFCAD like I said, FSX will turn on localizer beam only in one direction and this would prevent from capturing it in other direction.

But if it doesn't, the only way is to change frequency.

Joe,

KSJC  ... I fly in there ... both 12R ILS and 30L ILS (110.9) working properly.

Did you happen to check your FSX AFCAD info for KSJC or view the info in the FSX MAP View?

Edit .. screenshots (quick test).

To All Who Have Replied,

Thanks a lot for your input and advice.  I will try to see if I can change the AFCAD first.

Joe

Joe,

Do a screenshot of your FSX Afcad or the ILS data from the FSX Map View so we can see what you have now.

Best Regards,
