September 15, 201312 yr Has anyone been successful in adding an island(s) into OSM? I have read the Wiki about the various tags and still can't figure it out. I understand that the multipolygon is what one uses, but what is the tag line for an island? Do you make each island (say in a river with lots of islands) first and then do the river using the tag Riverbank? Can you add an island after the river is complete? How about a step by step procedure to accomplish an island? All this computerize is just too much for my feeble brain to comprehend! September 16, 201312 yr Islands are tagged only to name them, not define them as structures. In JOSM: Use a closed waterway:riverbank or natural:water body of water, draw one or more closed ways WITHIN that body of water representing the island, no need to tag them at all. Now, select ALL the polygons - the water, and the untagged closed ways inside the water. Create a multipolygon from them all. Et voila, your islands are now land and water flows around. Add a single point in the center of your island, tag it with place:island, and then give it a name:(enter the name), and you're good! You only need to tag it as such IF you want the name of the island to show up on a map.. there's no need to tag it if the island is unnamed.

September 17, 201312 yr There is some quite extensive - and obviously good - learning / documentation material for OSM here: http://learnosm.org/en/ Might help with some questions / situations too ....
