September 19, 201312 yr Heres a pic over the Alps using FSXWX.... Posting a picture doesn't really answer the question, of course... ^_^
September 19, 201312 yr Commercial Member FSXWX does not even depict visibility, it's 80km or more always and at every altitude. Shame. Sent from my U8815 using Tapatalk 2 Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.
September 19, 201312 yr Completely different. Thats in the graphics engine. It is done by placing a double cone around the camera, rotating it relative to the camera to keep the rain movement relative to the camera accurate, and drawing a rapidly moving texture with the rain effects on it. I suppose one could try to intercept the draw calls that draw this and replace the vertices, texture, and shaders with one's own setup... I haven't flown much RW in the rain but, from what I remember, you don't really see it other than a reduced visibility and when it hits your windshield. Maybe others have more info there. September 19, 201312 yr Posting a picture doesn't really answer the question, of course... ^_^ You are right, it was late and I was in a hurry. It works great on my machine, none to very little performance hit, simple to run, clouds accurate and varied, even the fog looks good. One thing I really like is the 'route pre-load' option. You set your Dept/Dest codes and the weather will preload on the entire route so you dont have it reloading during the flight. What screen shots really dont show is the detail of the clouds, I use FSX with this and I have never seen them rendered better, right down to the 'wisps' and tendrals. One flight I took the haze was so thick east of LA I swear I could smell the smog lol One thing though, this supposidly only works with the paid version of FSUIPC. However one guy I fly with tried it with just the free version and it seemed to work ok. Jay

December 2, 201312 yr Some videos are up on their YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3m4kMiEAyBTk0dT5Ffyzsg?feature=watch I skipped the AS2012 as I did not suspect that the release had advanced enough to warrant an upgrade. However, it looks like the days of good 'ole ASE are coming to an end... I can't wait! Hats off to HifiSim for introducing what appears to be another fantastic product into the market! B)
December 2, 201312 yr Moderator And that's just the tip of the iceberg! I haven't been this excited about a weather program since the original Active Sky was released years ago. I will getting this on release day. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 2, 201312 yr That is looking mighty fine. So nice to see the clouds behaving themselves instead of random disappearing and sudden appearing scenarios. The fog picture on the runway in the threads is outstanding. CYVR LSZH I7-14700k 64gb 6000Mhz DDR5 ASUS z690 ROG STRIX Gaming RTX 4080 Super,
December 2, 201312 yr For me there are even aditional features to love in this new AS - the chance to finally be able to fly gliders in ridge and thermal lift using the same weather injector. Then, the way your skies get depicted, with cloud formations accurately placed, so that your radar echoes agree with their positions, precipitation type and intensity, and even wind shear / burst ... Turbulence, either in clouds of the convective type, but also due to terrain and wake is also modelled in a very realistic way, making your life really difficult if you don't geta away from the problems real fast... I believe everyone will welcome this new version of AS :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Getting close - as Jcomm said - there are so many great things to see AND feel! The video posted re the microburst is interesting to watch but even more interesting when you fly into one!! December 3, 201312 yr What I love about Active Sky is that you can plan your flight very accurately because its the only weather software that give a lot info information on your weather, this include cloud layer thickness and I find that to be very valuable. I will not be upgrading if AS start following other implementations of weather engines and as a result diminish this function.
December 3, 201312 yr Moderator Don't fear Stonelove - if anything we ave enhanced the operation. You will be pleased. Jose88 - hard to say - it is currently being worked on but the FSX product is first in the pipeline. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
December 3, 201312 yr Will take much time to adapt to P3D2? Enviado desde mi iPhone 5S con Tapatalk As excited as I am about ASN for FSX, and what it can do to correct the myriad deficiencies in the built in weather engine, I am dying to see how the new weather engine code works with the more realistic volumetric clouds/fog in P3D v2. The 2d cloud imaging we are forced to live with is no match for the capabilities of ASN. I hope the tradeoffs of global weather as DWC users can attest to are really gone for good in the new engine. I would love to use the real ATIS frequencies no matter the altitude, and eliminate quirks like contrails on the ground when I'm at cruise, seeing cruise winds on the ground, and of course, the realistic looking weather fronts and varied cloud formations which station based weather mode users enjoy is something DWC users would love to see.
