23" upgrade to 25" or 27" monitor?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I currently have a 23" Samsung 1920x1080 LED and was thinking of upgrading to a 27" 1920x1080 monitor. I find that for some games, the small print is getting harder to read as I age. But since I sit around 2-2.5 feet away from the monitor (it's a small desk), I'm thinking that a 27" might be too big. And also about the same number of pixels on a larger screen might be poorer picture quality than my 23".

I'm also considering one of those fairly rare Asus 25" LED's for the same price as a Samsung 27" monitor.

I'm perplexed whether I should just get the smaller 25" due to sitting so close to the monitor or will I regret not getting the 27" in the long run? I know there's 1440 27" monitors, but that's quite a bit out of my price range and performance wise with my 660 Ti.

I've read other threads about monitor size, but has anyone bought a 27" LED and later regretted it because it was too big for the short distance they sit from the screen?

Many thanks for any and all replies.

I'd say go for 27". Size matters.

If you worry about pixel size go check one out at a store. Only your own opinion will matter on that issue.

I recently went from a 24" 1080P to a 27" 1440P monitor and could never go back. I'm probably 2.5 feet from my monitor for and don't find it too big at all.

The crispness of the images displayed on 1440P are what really draws me in, and the extra size doesn't go astray either.

1440P will obviously be a bit more of a drain on performance so it's something to consider.

The reason I chose to go 1440P as opposed to 1080P on a 27" monitor was because the pixel density on the 1080P would be less and so sitting reasonably close I believed that would impact on how crisp the image would appear.

Using a 1440P monitor the text is smaller so that might be something to consider in your situation, but you can also make alterations to setting in windows to counteract this while still getting the benefit of the higher resolution.

Either way I think the larger monitor will add to your immersion.

I would try to get a monitor with either an IPS or PLS panel as the colour reproduction on these is a lot better than on TN panels.

After much debate (and headaches!) and after staring at a 27" beside a 24" at the store, I've decided to get a 25" instead. The picture on the 27" at 1920x1080 just didn't look as clear as on the 24". For $300 more, I could have gotten a 2560x1440 27", but my 660 Ti probably couldn't keep up with some games at the highest graphic settings.

The Asus 25" looks great with no light bleeding at all. A good improvement from my 23". The 25" are getting to be pretty rare.

Many thanks for the replies.

i got a 27'monitor 2560*1440 after having a 27'1920*1200......  conclusion the 2560*1440 is great, provide a great resolution and increase cockipt viewable area.....   but forget a 27'with a 1920*1200 resolution....   you lose sharpness and your eyes won't like it.....

too much, too soon....
