September 18, 201312 yr MarkW, Because after awhile it is hard to remember who released what and what you own, or in the case of freeware, downloaded. Boeing, Airbus, Piper, I know. Developer X, Y, Z, not so sure after all these years. OK starting to make some sense now for people who have many addon aircraft. Years ago I used to get everything and quickly realized I only fly a very limited list of aircraft so my addon aircrafts are not that many these days. Mark CYYZ
September 18, 201312 yr Well, it definitely helps if you've got, say, Milviz', Captain Sim's and JustFlight's 737-200. For everything else, there's CTRL+H. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
September 18, 201312 yr OTOH, I like to know I can hit 'B' and find my beechs, rather than having to fish about looking, then remember 'oh yeah, that one's a carenado...' I tend to think 'I'd like to fly a light twin, piper or beech?...' rather than 'I think I'll fly a carenado, no, wait, realair, no no, milviz... oh, flight1' It was just a joke. Probably a bad idea... Rolf Lindbom

September 18, 201312 yr ctrl-h? what is that supposed to do (it does nothing on my fsx that I can see)? As mentioned a few replies ago (by Ryan?), CTRL+H is Notepad's "search and replace" function, in this case used to mass replace "ui_manufacturer" entries. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
September 19, 201312 yr On a more serious note... While I do often get annoyed by the incorrect manufacturer entries, I realize it's probably a licensing issue. Like, for example, with Carenado's Cessnas -- they never ever mention the Cessna name (just the model #) on their page or in the manuals, never use the Cessna logo (look at the fake logos on the yokes, for example), etc.
September 19, 201312 yr Now it makes sense.. I was actually thinking it's all licensed, but the thing is, when searching for model names you often come up with results leading straight to carenado rather than the real aircraft maker.

September 19, 201312 yr I have a question sort of pertaining to this topic: How do I make default ATC know the name of my plane? What .cfg entry tells FSX what my airplane type is? For example: Default ATC calls my PMDG 777 just "Boeing". What do I need to change to enable ATC to say "Boeing 777" or just "777"? "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma

September 19, 201312 yr So, atc_type= Boeing atc_model= 777 (dropping the -200LR)? "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma
September 19, 201312 yr So, atc_type= Boeing atc_model= 777 (dropping the -200LR)? ATC rarely, if ever, uses suffixes... IRL, they'd just say "Traffic is a Boeing Triple 7" or "Caution wake turbulence - departing Heavy Triple 7" or something to that effect...
September 19, 201312 yr Commercial Member It becomes funny in case of a airplane company that change its name several times along the years like Mc-Donnell/Douglas, some of your airplanes might end up under Douglas, others with Mc-Donnell/Douglas and others with Boeing... September 19, 201312 yr Ever thought that Cessna might not allow the use of their name and logo for flightsim models? Isn't that precisely what I said? I simply used Carenado's fake logos as an example to emphasize that they are not licensed to use the real stuff... BTW, I don't think Cessna refuses to grant licenses for sim models in general, the A2A 172 uses the brand name and logos (although they still put "A2A Cessna" instead of "Cessna" as the manufacturer name). September 19, 201312 yr It becomes funny in case of a airplane company that change its name several times along the years like Mc-Donnell/Douglas, some of your airplanes might end up under Douglas, others with Mc-Donnell/Douglas and others with Boeing... Should I ever release a DC-9, I'm going to base the manufacturer entry on the name of the company at the time the depicted model was produced. So an early Delta DC-9-10 will be listed as "Douglas", while a post-merger DC-9-10 will be listed as "McDonnell Douglas" and a post-merger MD-80 will be listed as "Boeing". Also, I will meake sure to list any MD-80s under "DC-9-80". That should tick them off, teeheehee... Isn't that precisely what I said? I simply used Carenado's fake logos as an example to emphasize that they are not licensed to use the real stuff... I read it as an uneducated complaint. Sorry about that. *Cough* 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
