September 19, 201312 yr Two weeks at home, recovering from a surgery, were time enough ( although I would like to have more... ) not only to recover, but specially to profit from an experience I wasn't really expecting to have right now - the joy of using FSX at it's best, and with a couple of add-ons that are trully remarkable on their own - PMDG's B777200LR and the A2A C172P. I actually re-installed FSX, instead of continuing to use P3D, because of these two add-ns and another one that must be kept in secret, since I wasn't even expecting that at least the A2A C172P would bring a P3D-ready installer. Anway, I installed FSX and was rather conservative, making sure no problems would spoil my experience when starting to use such a complex simulation as that PMDG 777 is. I am using the usual tweaks in FSX.cfg, my siders are not all fully right on the scenery options menu of FSX, the scenery, appart from Madeira ( LPMA ) and Lukla, is default, I have applied Hervés Magnetic Variation update based on 2010 datum, and in PMDG I made sure that the display rates for the various LCDs/CRTs were at 15. I am alternating between two weather injectors, both very well designed and providing an excellent experience in as far as RWW injection goes. I sometimes enable FSX's traffic, but I use no external trafic generator. I bought FTX Global, for P3D, but didn't install it in FSX, because although I noticed no impact on P3D, unless the 3d lights option was enabled, which I promptly disabled, I decided to test stability of my FSX install with a minimal configuration and set of add-ons, and only after getting satisfactory results move on to additional add-ons. I am also using FSUIPC again, and even decided to define all of my control axis and calibraton through it, less the throttle which I was told might interfere with the sophisticated throttle logic of PMDG's 777. I have VSync for both fullscreen and windowed modes active, although I am primarilly using windowed mode and the auto-hotkey script for full-screen emulation, and my FPS is limited at 30 FPS. My sytem is an i5 2500k, @ 3,3GHz, with 16GB DDR3 RAM, a 1TB black series WDC SATA disk, a Nvidia GTX 650 Ti with 1GB GDDR5, and Windows 7 64 bit. I have only one partition, and FSX is intalled in a non-system folder, as well as all other simulation add-ons and simulators (ELITE, DCS World and X-Plane 10). I have so far completed more than 20 medium to long haul lights in this beautiful and amazing 777, and many more short flghts in the also amazing A2A C172, and some flight in other aircraft too. I never had an OOM, or noticed performance degradation resulting in stuttering, although on some occasions I see my FSX-reported FPS drop to around 15fps, without this resulting in any type of stutter, or artifacts. I look forward for the about to be released DX10 mode commercial "configurator" and am willing to try it because, althoug I am not using it now, the last time I had FSX installed I really invested in DX10 mode, following the precious advices here at the dedicated AVSIM forum, and although I am aware that PMDG doesn't recommend it's use, I still remember the whow!s when I started using it :-) What I would like to say, to end this already long post ( sorry ) is that I believe I have never felt so happy with FSX and it's add-ons, and using them, instead of spending time tweaking, as I am feeling now, and I really share with many others the oppinion that, after all, FSX is here to stay, probably for quite a long while, and prove it is still the most complete, and enjoyable, civil flight simulation platform available for Windows, provided we know it's limitations and do not try to install and enable each and every add-on and feature, expecting to have a 2013 simulator made up of the code for a 2006 one, even if, we have to emphasize, it is after all a remarkable piece of software!!! September 19, 201312 yr So JC . can we assume you have settled into FSX or If another pretty girl walks by, are you going to start chasing after her?
September 19, 201312 yr ...everyone comes back to FSX eventually  More importantly, I hope your recovery from the surgery is going ok.
September 19, 201312 yr Author or If another pretty girl walks by, are you going to start chasing after her? Well, actually I have my eyes on that A2A Logo.... :-) More importantly, I hope your recovery from the surgery is going ok. Thank you Dave! Yes, I have to agree - FSX is, after all, the simulator I get more joy from using, although I still use DCS ( the best flight dynamics ever, but not using it for what it is supposed to be used...), ELITE and X-Plane 10, and of course, look fwd for PSX :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
