Site effects

Recommended Posts

Two things.

1. Will we be able to see the site effects as a list to see each site? Not just a list of airports that have the effects-get my meaning?

2. "HKIA Hong Kong (China)" I hope that this is not how opus is seeing hong kong or else there will be no effect right?

We are thinking about point 1, and thanks for pointing out the ICAO code problem for Hong Kong Int, I will change it to VHHH straight away.

As for point 1 we are considering adding comments and displaying these warnings for the departure and destination within the weather dialog, or in the on screen weather reports.

A new beta has been posted with the Hong Kong correction and three more sites added, the beta also allows POV and Hat switches to be assigned and used for the LCC axes functions.

P.S. If you are suffering from the FSX anomaly (bug) that shifts the aircraft axis for certain aircraft at certain locations then the LCC functions to correct this in a second or two. First use the LCC to offset your camera view to make the correction, then use the LCC Set Camera function to store and associate the offsets for the current camera view. This method gets round this problem and takes less than a couple of seconds before flight.

The Site Effects feature is used to specify any additional turbulence and wind shear effects within 80 km of the airfield. These additional effects typically result from local features such as terrain or even obstacles and buildings on approaches to various runways. Currently, the British sites with some well known International airports are included within the Opus list, currently 62 sites are covered, but the list is growing larger with each beta and release.

You can also configure your own customised site effects for your favourite aerodromes, whether real or not. Users also submit their effects for inclusion into the standard Opus list.

Comment from a very experienced Airbus captain,

"The site effects are wonderful. I'm amazed that you have been able to cajole FSX into modelling local geographical weather elements as precise as Sydney, due to the low altitude of the site effect, [works] perfectly simulating the mechanical turbulence from Terminal 1 during a SW wind over 25 knots to runway 16R."

Are these effects also noticeable during takeoff if the conditions are right?
