FSX SP2/Acceleration Fatal Error on startup

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've got a Fatal Error on startup that only seems to occur when SP2 or Acceleration are installed.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and have an AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series graphics card. As far as I’m aware I have the most up to date drivers installed from the AMD website.

I have th FSX Gold Package of FSX Deluxe and Acceleration. I have tried clean installs of both FSX Deluxe>SP1>SP2 and FSX Deluxe>Acceleration to no avail and the same thing happens each time, I should point out that I tried the service packs and Acceleration seperately, not at the same time. When starting FSX up, after a few seconds I get a message ‘A Fatal Error Has Occurred’ and it shuts down.

FSX is installed to C:/Games/Flight Simulator X rather than the default Program Files.

From the event log:

0dls.jpg

Oddly, when ending a flight with just SP1 installed I get a Fatal Error as well. Whether this is related or not, I don’t know.

Any help would be much appreciated.

If I have failed to provide any vital details here then please do let me know!

Kind Regards,
Huw

Download AppCrashView http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html

Just run it and find this error by date and time, then post complete AppCrashView report(just copy / paste, or better paste to notepad and atach to post)

AppCrashView will show more info.

Have you folowed some guide for FSX installation? You need to install some C++ and DX components, to load default flight and restart PC after each step of installation - after you install FSX, then after you install SP1, After SP2. Don't install FSX to default location etc...

If I can add to Zeljko's info, this statement is scary as you cannot install Acceleration if SP2 was installed as they both are coded differently to avoid piracy.  So, if you ever installed SP2, you need to uninstall it first before installing Acceleration.  You can try to insert the Acceleration disk and select uninstall when the installer begins.  Then, click on the SP2 (if you still have it) and if it comes up with an installer with no options to remove it, then it is most likely not installed.  Start up FSX and run it.

This action has probably messed up your registry completely.  I would completely uninstall FSX and then run a registry cleaner and make sure all FSX folders have been removed (most are hidden).  Use the following guide for uninstalling/reinstalling - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx.  You need to install FSX Deluxe and then run FSX at least one time before installing Acceleration.  Once you see things running properly, you can then install Acceleration.  Remember, you do not need SP1 or SP2 as they are included with Acceleration (FSX Gold).

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks for the reply!

Sounds like there's a better way than the way I;ve been doing it. I've not installed to the default location and I've been loading the default flight after loading FSX but not after each the SP (and I am unable to after Acceleration/SP2 due to the Fatal Error anyway). What are these C++ and DX components?

Thanks for the reply firehawk44!

I should emphasise that I've never tried to have both SP2 and Acceleration installed at the same time, but the Fatal Error occurs with both.

I will try the registry cleaner and following the guide you linked to.

Cheers,

Huw

Thanks for the reply firehawk44!

I should emphasise that I've never tried to have both SP2 and Acceleration installed at the same time, but the Fatal Error occurs with both.

I will try the registry cleaner and following the guide you linked to.

Cheers,

Huw

I doubt that you can install both at the same time but sometimes remnants get left in the registry and then you have corruption.  In fact it should be impossible to install both at the same time.  It's just that FSX does a rotten job of uninstalling and you had to uninstall FSX, SP1 and SP2 before you installed Acceleration or you are asking for problems.

I suggested that you completely uninstall FSX, make sure the folders that are hidden are removed (as shown in the uninstall/reinstall guide I provided a link to) and then reinstall FSX making sure you start up fsx first before installing Acceleration.  Just running the registry cleaner with an installation of FSX will not fix anything.

There is nothing in your crash report out of the ordinary.  You received the infamous BEX (Buffer_Exception_Overrun) and there was no faulting module.  Since you could not start up FSX, the no faulting module would be normal.  I just think the problem exists with what you stated originally and that's where you tried fsx with sp1 and sp2 and it still crashed and then acceleration and it is now crashing.  Acceleration installs both SP1 and SP2.  Since BEX crashes normally equal high settings or bad overclocks, then those things should be investigated too.

You could have a corrupted dll.xml which is hard to determine if you are not familiar with this file.  I found duplicate entries in mine once and remnants of software uninstalled and I removed those errors and it fixed a crash.  You can open it with NotePad but I recommend downloading and running NotePad++ as that puts the file into a better format and might be easier to fix.

There's one other tool you can run to investigate exactly what is going on when your FSX crashes.  It's called Process Monitor and you can download that program from the Internet.  You simple open it up before you start up FSX and, when the crash occurs, go to the Process Monitor and hit Ctrl+E to capture the event (means it will stop monitoring).  It's a messy report but you can scroll through it and see where FSX quit loading and see what was happening around that time.  Maybe it couldn't find a file or load something.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi guys, my view of appcrashview is exacty the same as posted so I will avoid reposting...

except for this part;

LoadedModule[133]=C:\Windows\system32\d3d10_1core.dll
Sec[0].Key=LCID
Sec[0].Value=5129
State[0].Key=Transport.DoneStage1
State[0].Value=1
FriendlyEventName=Stopped working
ConsentKey=BEX
AppName=Microsoft® Flight Simulator X
AppPath=D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe

FSX runs fine, add in acceleration and it fatal crashes... uninstall accelleration and it is back to working fine.

System appears close to the same. i5, with ATI HD6950 video card, win7 ultimate x64

Hopefully you following the guidance in the AVSIM CTD Guide and my comments above too. The changes you posted provides no clues. BEX crashes are quite common in FSX and usually indicate high settings.
