Landing Practise in the Airbus

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Having just learned that commercial pilots only very rarely use the autoland feature on Airbus' I want to learn how to land the A320 manually and to the correct procedure. I have only ever used autoland.

However, I don't really want to have to fly a full flight first before I can attempt a landing (and probably screw it up).

Can you folks recommend the best way to practise landing the A320 in different settings? For example, a clear day, a foggy day, a windy day and a stormy day.

PS: I have had a go before and can just about land in fine conditions. The problem comes when wind is gusting, it blows me right off course and usually at the last minute when I can't correct it! what do I do in these circumstances?

Thanks

I presume you're referring to the autopilot?

I'm not sure what the correct procedures are you see, so I need guidance...

Do you fly the approaches completely by hand or in heading hold mode?

Are you familiar with a crabbing approach?
