Pesky "Failed to Read File" error

Recommended Posts

background:  My ImagineSim KSJC has worked perfectly for years, so this is how I got  it screwed up.  I created an EZ scenery file and it also has worked fine for years.  Windows placed it in the VirtualStore's folder for this scenery instead of in the normal IS KSJC senery folder in FS9, but it worked just fine there, so no problem.

I decided to deleted the EZ scenery file and now get a "Failed to read file" error msg and CTD whenever I try and launch FS9.

I have restored the file but  the error persists. I have also removed and reinstalled ImagineSIm KSJC scenery but no help with the CTD.

If I deactivate the scenery or delete it, FS loads just fine, so something in this scenery is now causing the error but I have no idea what it is. Any ideas on causes or fixes would be appreciated.

Download and run SceneryConfigEditor (it works for FS9 and FSX).  See if there are any errors when you open up the SceneryConfigEditor.  Go to Actions Tab and click on "Delete Scenery.dat" files.  Go fly.

Thanks Jim. That is a great utility and I have used it several times.

In this case I found out from ImagineSim that choosing the "Run as Administrator" option when reinstalling the scenery prevents this error.  I had forgotten to do that.

Thanks Steve for posting this.  I just had the same problem with the ImagineSIm KATL 2012 scenery.  Uninstalling as Admin and reinstalling as Admin fixed it.
