Cera Sim UH-60L Released

Recommended Posts

helicopters don't get much attention in these forums, but i guess there are enough rotorheads for payware makers to release top quality helicopters.

uh60 blackhawk is the latest offering from cera, which made the excellent bell 412, and 222.

the blackhawk is a great model, light on fps, external model is outstanding, and the vc is one of the best in fsx. fde is based on the fsx acceleration eh101 and flies/feels like a afcs equipped twin turbine transport. comments by a blackhawk pilot are very positive on the flying characteristics and the model.

The power up checklist is well done (not ctrl-e), and it's awesome to see the 4-blade rotor slowly turn overhead as the turbine spools up.

the vc is top quality like the b412 and 222, but this time, they improved the night lighting to the level of mjc q400 and other top fsx payware. it's one of those 'wow' moments turning on the various panel lights. nvg (night vision goggles) are also provided, just like the vrs f/a18 but without the 'bloom' effect.

external model. A (detailed, looks like the real thing, bump map, hres texture)

VC............. A (3d gauges, hres texture, support for rxp gns530)

VC lighting.... A (lots of knobs to adjust lighting)

FDE............ A (good as desktop sim and cheap controllers allow)

FPS............ A (smooth)

sys depth...... B (not VRS or PMDG)

repaints....... A (many outstanding paints)

immersion...... A (looks and flies great, must have trackir)

flying over orbx pnw in the blackhawk is treat, there are sights to check out (flying barely above the tree line) and many cool places to land.

Good mini-review and some nice pics.  I picked this one up after reading some positive things about it over at SOH; it hasn't disappointed.  Fun to fly, looks great.   I might dispute the 'A' rating for the FDE, but in all other areas I agree 100%.

KDFW, I've been looking for that longhorns repaint since I saw the pic of it over at Hovercontrol, where might one find it?

you can find the nas fallon longhorns at

one more thing about the Blackhawk: cera got the hover attitude right, it hovers with slight nose up pitch as it should. the older 222 and 412 were off on this (corrected by using htr).

groom lake also has a start up tutorial video there.

Thank you, good sir!  Off to d/l now!

*edit*

And a double thank-you is in order - I'd never seen this page before, found lots of paints for things I'm currently flying.  Kind of like Christmas, but without the pine tree scent. ^_^

There was a small problem with the ability to retract landing gear.. (try it..) When I E-mailed Cera, their response was

Good review but I can't fly heli's to save my life.  It all seems fine then at landing I spin, flip backwards and crash.  Tried off and on for 10 years....same result.

unless your controls are out of whack, shouldn't be that much of an issue flying helicopters, especially the ones modeling large afcs stabilized helicopters. if your fsx acceleration eh101 flies fine, then the Blackhawk will be fine.

but recommend proper controls: joystick, throttle quad, and pedals.

but isn't this just awesome looking? one of the best paint jobs for this model.

Great screenshot. There has really been some amazing repaints released for the Blackhawk. Makes it really fun to fly; of course most of the time I've been pretending it's a Seahawk but hey, it's all good!

I spent over 5 hours in the UH-60 simulator in Al ... and yes helo's are pretty stable until you transition to hover.. at that point all control inputs start affecting each other, mostly collective + rudder (tail rotor) .. a real hand full to master especially without physical feed back from the seat of your pants :-) ..

My son can fly the real thing beautifully :-)

btw, hsc-3 flies mh60s 'knighthawks,' has same tail gear like the uh60l.
