Hello guys

 

I'am new to this Forum and DX10 in FSX and was reading this Topic with interest.

I have the sam problem with my MSI Radeon R9 270X Hawk - 2GB.

 

Maybe it is also a problem with the Driver? I tried a lot of settings but nothing helped.

Maybe anyone could help me here?

Hello members, a few days ago something strange happened, I came host running FSX perfectly with my ATI 12.4 drivers without spikes or anything weird. DX10 enabled and working perfect. 

 

One day I turn on my pc and enter WIN7 gives me a bug in the ATI driver .... I do not give much importance, I try to run FSX and do not enter me! 

Di many laps until I figured they were the drivers of the ATI board. 

Uninstall 12.4 and went back to install and gives me! is like to be connected to the internet and will not let me use these drivers .... more 

I was forced to upgrade to version 14.2 but I can not use because I became more Dx10 the SPIKES!! 

 

Any step you??

Hi Agustalli; You need to do a complete removal of the AMD/ATI driver in this case. Go here for instructions, and go here for an AMD/ATI removal tool which will do it for you - ok!

 

Drivers 12.8 to 12.11 work, (here) and will not suffer from the artifacting of the newer drivers.

Well I have a I7 4770k @ 4.22ghz and an ati R9 290X 4GB, 16gb ram, ssd's the lot.

Tried new drivers, tried old drivers even tried downgrading to windows 7 (from 8.1) and this hasn't fixed anything either. Tried all sorts of config settings to no avail. No issues at all on DX9. I have settings in the Cat control centre because the sim looks horrid without them. 

 

I thought it was just me with these issues but i am absolutely staggered beyond belief that its an ati thing. 

 

I would say my machine is more than powerful enough to run fsx and achieve a better than average result. Its definitely not an overstressing/overheating issue as my fans kick in at the slightest hint of heavy resource usage. Ive rolled back to DX9 as I simply cannot fly with spikes and tearing.

My advise for you is to switch to Nvidia . The smoothneeth is just so much better even in DX9.

 

Take my word for it (i switch HD7970GHZ to GTX780SC)

If you want DX10 mode FSX you have to go nVidia. True.

 

DX9 works flawless and smooth as glass on ATI though. But I understand people might want the cockpit shadows (the only real difference I was ever able to detect)

 

P3Dv2.0 is DX11 and also works with ATI. But fps is no where near as good as DX9 regardless of having either ATI or nVidia.

 

Don't get me wrong. I am also in the camp of ticked off ATI users when it comes to FSX DX10. I know this broke in a driver last year and I know that our tiny community is not asking ATI to fix it or they would have. Our hobby is too obscure to make them simply care that DX10 "Preview" does not work with their drivers.

 

Ah well. If the GTX780's price tag was not retarded, I would have bought one. FSX should NOT need a $500 card. Period. And buying a $350 equivalent to replace my 7970GHZ (the GTX770) so I can have cockpit shadows is also stupid when everything else works perfectly as advertised.

 

And ATI? Thanks for the price fixing. Your $300 R9 290 is still $450. Rip off city.

It's simply not true that you have to go to Nvidia. You just have to use the older drivers with ATI. 

Since I have switched back to 12.10 the spikes and artifacts are gone.

It's simply not true that you have to go to Nvidia. You just have to use the older drivers with ATI. 

Since I have switched back to 12.10 the spikes and artifacts are gone.

 

While technically true unless you only use your PC for Flight Sim you really do need the newer drivers.  Like Charles i have posted and asked ATI for a fix, not a chance we'll get it.

P3Dv2.0 is DX11 and also works with ATI. But fps is no where near as good as DX9 regardless of having either ATI or nVidia.

P3Dv2 with DX11 on AMD is way faster than FSX with FX9 (at least on my R290). DX10 in FSX is also faster and smoother than DX9, but is unusable from some time (for me since Windows 8 update to 8.1 and new drivers)

I don't care about old drivers, new 14.4 gave me huge boost in DCS: World and new graphics engine is around the corner.

I submitted the issue through the form, and also posted my disappointment on AMD forums.
Meanwhile, I have something that can help you to slow down the spikes (I hope so). Here it follows:

AMD driver is 14.6 RC. With these settings, I was able to fly 2 hours without spikes. I noticed that cloud layers and quantity are related to the problem. Bad weather with several cloud layers will make the issue to appear sooner.

Personally I'd leave the poolsize alone, and afaik TextureMaxLoad=6 is already FSX default.

I had to rebuild my PC recently due to a OS crash, and as I was rebuilding my FSX, I noticed that my framerates increased significantly with no spikes. Then I noticed when I loaded up EZDOK v1.17, it all started to happen again. Tried all sorts of tweaks, no joy. Dropped it to DX9, framerates took a massive hit. Reloaded Steve's DX10 fix, framerates jumped right back up. Removed EZDOK and it's all sweet, no spikes or corruption!

 

Will keep experimenting.
