CTD immediately after accessing in-flight menu (Win7 64bit)

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a new PC and installed FSX and Acceleration.  It's Win7 64 bit and it is crashing to the desktop (fatal error) as soon as I access the ALT menus.

My fatal error crash occurs immediately after clicking to open a menu, not after 15-20 clicks which was reported as being a problem in several other threads.

I saw the posts about remove the UIAnimationCore.dll from System 32 and SysWOW64.  I removed them and it didn't make a difference so I've put them both back (from back ups I made before I deleted them).

AppCrashView generated the following report:

This crash occurred as I sat on the runway straight after loading.  I pressed ALT and from the drop down menu clicked 'Select Aircraft.'  It went to a black screen and crashed to the desktop a few seconds later.

It sometimes also happens if I press ESC to exit the flight.  It can crash to the desktop when I do that as well.

It can also sometimes CTD before it even begins loading.  I chose my aircraft, location and click the button in the bottom right to begin loading but it crashes straight away.  However, I cannot seem to replicate this error.  If it occurs I'll post the log.

Other than the issue described above, the simulator seems to run very smoothly.  It's frustrating however because I can't use the menus. some of which I used frequently on my old PC (such as save flight).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for posting your AppCrashView results in a new post.  It makes things easier.  Your crash was caused by your ATI video card driver.  Uninstall/reinstall the driver.  Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card - http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx.

I would also remove the uiautomationcore.dll from your main fsx folder as it is obviously not fixing your crash(es).  Place it in a temporary folder until this problem is fixed.  Then, if you want, you can move it back.

You might want to scan your system too for any corrupted drivers as something might have gotten corrupted when you removed the uiautomationcore.dll's from your system folders and then replaced them - http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/sfc-scannow.htm.

YBAF I'm having the same problem having redone the hard drive last week.

Previously I'd had no problem with FSX and Win7 64bit although I had used the UIAnimationCore.dll fix ( the version ending 1800 I think) and things had worked well.

I've been through the UiAnimationcore.dll threads switching files from one version to another and even removing UiAnimationCore.dll completely.

All my drivers are the latest and everything else works just fine...in fact FSX works OK in windowed mode.

In full screen everytime I try to change aircraft it crashes.

Right now I'm scanning the internet for other ideas...sometimes I've seen an underlying window saying Loading not complete.....can anyone suggest what might be behind issue?

Thanks

YBAF I'm having the same problem having redone the hard drive last week.

So you are having a crash with the atiumdag.dll as the faulting module too?  That's what caused YBAF's crash, not the uiautomationcore.dll.

If you would like for us to check out your problem, you should post a new topic with your AppCrashView report just like YBAF did above.  You can download AppCrashView from this link - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html.  Just paste the results here in a new topic and someone will take a look at your report and provide some suggestions to fix your problem.

The uiautomationcore.dll only fixes menu crashes (not like the one the OP had).  If you have a crash after repeated hits at the fsx menu, then the proper version of the uiautomationcore.dll might work.  Personally I have tried to replicate the fsx menu crash w/o the dll in my main fsx folder and I cannot get a crash.  If I put the dll in my main fsx folder, I will get an occasional crash with varying faulting modules.  When I take it out, all crashes stop.  Weird huh?

I'm pleased to have found AppCrashView thanks to this forum and yes my problem is showing as atiumdag.dll.

At least it gives me a clue ;  perhaps a new Nvidia card might be next!

I found a copy of atiumdag.dll and put it in my system32 folder but still no luck.

Right now I'm pulling off anything remotely connected to my Radeon HD6700 in the hope that that might work ; after that I'm going shopping for Win7 32bit!.

LATER EDIT

I uninstalled all of the latest AMD drivers and went back to a year old copy. It's early days but it looks like FSX is stable

I had the issue described and going back to the AMD video driver version 12.10 resolved the issue for me. Thanks for sharing your insights!

Thanks, Jim.  The problem was definitely caused by the video card driver.

Uninstalling and reinstalling it didn't seem to work but going back to an earlier version has it now running perfectly (thanks drnunn and nippa).

I appreciate the help!
