October 6, 201312 yr Hi all. I have the asus P8Z77-v mobo, my op system is on on my Samsung 840 pro ssd drive connected into one of the intel 6 gbs sata port, my fsx install is is on my 500 gig velociraptor drive which is in my other intel 6 gbs sata port, I have got another Samsung ssd drive coming which I want to install all my photo scenery onto, as it takes up loads of space, so can I use one of the asmedia 6 gbs ports for my new ssd drive. Thanks.
Paul Sleight
October 6, 201312 yr From what I've read the major difference is that non-Intel ports don't necessarily work as ports for booting drives, so why not. https://www.youtube.com/user/JustaRandomSimmer Simulator Videos http://sierra-hotel.blogspot.com Aviation Picture Blog
October 6, 201312 yr The Asmedia ports are not as quick as the native intel ports so you will not be getting the full potential out of your SSD. I would move the Velociraptor to one of the Sata 3GB/s ports since the velociraptor really doesn't take advantage of Sata 6GB/s. -Anthony Young- "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci
October 6, 201312 yr Thats actually pretty good Intel https://www.youtube.com/user/JustaRandomSimmer Simulator Videos http://sierra-hotel.blogspot.com Aviation Picture Blog
October 6, 201312 yr Author Ok, thanks, it wont upset anything if I unplug my vrap drive & put it in another port as its taken me 5 weeks of installing to get to where I am now & I really don't want to have to start again as this is my 3rd new install in the last year.
Paul Sleight
October 6, 201312 yr No, shouldn't cause any problems at all. I'd do it now before your new SSD arrives. -Anthony Young- "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci
October 6, 201312 yr Author Ok, thanks, just another thought, the vrap drive has fsx & loads of add on planes + most of the orbx sceneries released & a few airport's, would you think it may perform better in the sata 3 gbs port or the asmedia 6 gbs port.
Paul Sleight
October 6, 201312 yr I'd plug it in to the native Intel 3GB/s port if it were me. It won't make a difference to performance since the Vrap isn't fast enough to saturate the bandwidth of the 3GB/s port let alone a 6GB/s port. -Anthony Young- "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci
