The C172 - probably the best default prop in X-Plane 10

Featured Replies

I just bought Carenado C172N...just wanting to know if I'm missing something; want to give X-Plane and Carenado a fair chance.

My initial impression is, unfortunately, the Carenado C172N is not in the same league as A2A's C172SP. I am talking not just about details of the plane and how functional everything is inside the cockpit, but also their flight characteristics. A2A is so much more realistic.

Hopefully X-Plane will get an awesome C172 in the near future....

To me the default is good.

Could you check one thing in the Carenado , when you toggle the landing lights does the AMP needle jump ?

I am looking for a Data Sheet for the 172SP so I can fool around with it in Plane Maker. If you know one please let me know.

No, it doesn't. I flipped all the lights, avionics power, and carburetor heat. None has any effect on the amp meter except for the alternator switch.

Ok, so all systems are not simulated. Which is nonsense.

Of course even the default does not have that. But as I said could be done through plane maker, I guess I should take a trip down to plane maker.

Interestingly, I got smoke in the cockpit maybe for mistreating the engine. The smoke remains even when I use an outside view.

LOl you burnt that engine hehehe .  I think it should be the generator overheating . You must have kept the throttle to full for a quite a long time..

I just took off from an airport and flew a 180 immediately back to the airport. Hardly a long time....

I really wish A2A would bring their products to X-Plane such as the C172 and 182, it would work so well on the platform and is very badly needed. However the Alabeo and Carenado stuff has really improved recently, the latest additions such as the scroll-wheel support and GPS have taken GA to another level for me on X-Plane.

If a POH (pilot's operating handbook) will do, they are very available online...for example: http://www.michiganflyers.org/aircraft/documents/77s-info.pdf

The newest C172SP POH have all the performance data you can imagine and more. C172L's POH, on the other hand, is much shorter. If the newer one is too confusing, look at the older C172 POH. Make sure it has at least the same HP though.

And, I am just waiting for the fix Dan is adding to the various models to arrive to one of these Cessnas. I don't like the C185, so, I wouldn't buy it just to taste the new approach followed for tuning the prop effects, but I look forward to see the Baron 58 and the C90 updated, and will probably buy either a Piper or a Cessna...

Thanks. I will need to fidget with Plane Maker first and understand what it is like.

I think eventually A2A will come to XPX.  PMDG is almost there. They will see the bigger picture.  unless someone first gives you a similar product.

@jcomm,

small help with PlaneMaker, I am not able to find the electrical stuff. Can you point me in which category would it fall in planemaker ?

Yep I have it.  But even that the amp needle does not jump.

Should it? Really? It should dip, I believe, with flaps deployment / retract.

Not next to my sim PC, until late tonight :-/
