Frustrated

Recommended Posts

I am hoping that someone will be able to assist me.  I am a long time FSX user.  Having said that, I am not a computer wizard.  I just like to sit and play the sim.  Recently my computer crashed, so I had one built that would run the sim.  I had them use the old windows 7 operating system as I heard compatibility issues with window 8.  They used the old hard drives from my old computer ( I had 3).  I use one drive solely for my FSX.  When I installed FSX I had a lot of trouble activating it, but eventually it worked.  Now here is my issue.  When I open the sim, the screen with all the available aircraft shows up.  Some of the default planes will not load when I choose it.  For example, the Boeing 737.  When I choose it, the screen is black, however I can hear it.  When I close that plane, and we return to the available aircraft screen, it remains black.  When I choose another aircraft, it shows as available, but the same black screen loads with sound only.  When I close the sim, and restart it, the same issue presents itself.  Certain planes will work fine, and others will not. I have changed the compatibility to use XP service pack 3 and to run as administrator.   I have searched different forums, and even called Microsoft.  I cant seem to find an answer.  FS 9 runs perfectly.  My computer specs are as follows:

Intel Core i5-3470.  CPU @ 3.20 GHz

8.00 GB Ram

64 bit OS

Windows 7 Home premium/ Service pack 1

Radeon HD 7700 video card

I hope this enough information

Thanks in advance!!

Have you applied the UIAutomationcore.dll file to you FSX folder? I'm sure I've read about this solving a similar issue before. You can get the file pretty easily, just do a search in the forums.

Best of luck!

Hi Jester,

I wonder if the PC builder installed all of the mainboard chipset drivers and so forth.  If Alenia's suggestion doesn't do it maybe try installing the latest chipset and video card drivers.

Have you installed the fixed uiautomationcore.dll and put HIGHMEMFIX=1 into your fsx.cfg? UAC is off?

Sometimes deleting your fsx.cfg and letting FSX rebuild it will help.

I don't use the XP compatibility mode. If it's not fixing anything I'd turn that off.

Hi gents.  Well, I installed the UIAutomatincore into the main FSX folder.  Has not fixed the problem.  I shall continue to search.  Thanks to all for your assistance!!

When I close that plane, and we return to the available aircraft screen, it remains black. When I choose another aircraft, it shows as available, but the same black screen loads with sound only.

This indicates memory starvation.  Your fsx settings may be set okay and may not be the problem.  Remember when you first installed FSX?  It was running great and with massive FPS.  Then you started adding things.  The problem is other things running in the background.  If you hear some HDD thrashing while running fsx, fsx is actually loading almost everything you have installed for FSX (if you want to see for yourself, download and run Process Monitor while FSX is loading and running).  This is why I moved to the SceneryConfigEditor, a neat utility for managing your installed sceneries - http://sourceforge.net/projects/fs-sceditor/files/.  I only enable the sceneries that I will be using during my intended flightplan.  I can do this before FSX is even loaded (be careful though with FTX/Orbx scenery as that is usually enabled via their FTX Central program.  You can still disable some of their scenery but remember to reenable them before using FTX Central).  Before I found this utility, I was also getting those black screens.  I have a lot of FTX/Orbx stuff (well, almost all of it) and a lot of photosceneries (in fact, practically the whole USA!).  So try that fix as there really is no magic bullet to fix memory starvation.

Best regards,

Jim
