October 27, 201312 yr Hello all I had to switch my aircraft for the freeware PC6 from Tim Conrad. This is my flight #4 on my way from Juneau to Anchorage. This leg was between Tanis Mesa and Young Creek, through Russel Fjord, Disenchantment Bay, Bagley Icefields, Thomson Ridge and Thana Glacier. This flight was wet, with dense and freezing cold rain 3/4 of the time. But a nice sunny spell at arrival made for a great, scenic approach to Young Creek. Young Creek (0AK5) is really a picturesque strip, on the side of Nizina River, and surrounded with Wrangell-St. Elias National Park moutains. The approach was not that easy : coming low from South, I had to perform a long right-turn just a few miles from the steep slopes of Williams Peak. 0AK5 is a 1500ft grassy, and slightly sloping strip. Can be a bit challenging if for some reason, you have to land downwind. Not my case : the slight 5kts front wind helped my PC6 coming slow and stopping short. I hope you will enjoy.
