What's the longest "real time" flight you have done in FS?

Featured Replies

Just a little curiosity here, as I am in the middle of a super-long flight, from Rio de Janeiro SBGL to Papeete NTAA, on a Varig MD-11 (IFDG/ALain Capt cockpit). The total flight time (takeoff-touchdown) is something like 14 hours and 45 minutes. I think this and a Chicago-Hong Kong that I did on a United 747-400 once are the longest flights I did "real time" in FS.PS: Whay I mean by "real time" is not that you sit in front of the computer screen for the entire duration of the flight, but simply that you do not increase the speed of simulation in FS.What are you ultra long flights?

I personally am amazed by people who do round the world or fly long distance for hours in the sim.I get bored to easely and sitting there with nothing to do or no one to talk to seems a waste of time to me.I enjoy the Sids and Stars and approaches and have very occasionally done a 2-3 hour flight but thats it in the sim.Real world I flew a Seneca Five from the UK to Africa single pilot last summer when the ground temperatures at Madrid where 45 deg C. that involved several hours flight time and a refuelling stop.I refuelled at San Sebastian drank gallons of water and had to search for an empty oil bottle :-) because of that. The other last summer was even longer becuase of terrible headwinds of 80 kts flying back from Ljubljana (Slovenia) to the UK. This involved 2 stops for fuel and a night sector through horrendous thunderstorms again in a seneca five. That went into 10 hrs flight time ;-(But these were real world, with real cloud, real scenery and real people to talk to and even then it can get very monotonous with the DME ticking down painfully slow.Peter

I hardly ever do it anymore but the longest I've done was 26 and a half hours (yes, you read it here) in a B314 Clipper from the Azores to the Caribbean fighting terrible headwinds all the way.About half that was handflown at about 500ft to stay out of the worst of it, after that I let her climb to 2000ft or so for the rest of the trip so I could get some sleep. It was tiring, but hardly ever boring as I looked terror in the face near constantly flying in the dead of night over open ocean with low clouds and unpredictable gusty wind.

Am I the only one who thinks the idea of doing real-time long haul a bit sad? :-lol , I mean, I understand that some people set their sims up before bed, and it flies through the night and they land it in the morning? :-lol , thats just too funny, talk about the stereotypical anorak.Seriously, I couldnt even contemplate doing a flight longer than 2 hours tops, I just find the cruise portion of a flight SOOOOOOOO BORING.

Commercial: Frankfurt to Singapore. 11 Hours flight, but I just brought the plane to flight level, made sure the autopilot's where set and functioning and then I went to bed and reassumed control half an hour before descent.GA: I did the vintage flight around the world in the Vega that comes with the Simulator flights.I changed the legs according to the fuel load so I actually took of in New York and flew nonstop to Manchester. And to find out what kind of challenge that was for the pilots who did this in the 30's I did not go to sleep until I landed. I believe that was That was rough. I dozed away a couple of times. I don't remember how long it took, only that I landed at 4:10 UTC real time which was 6:10 my local time.

Now thats some mega-patience! I could never handle such long hours - even just leaving the computer to "fly" the plane! All my flights are short-haul hops never lasting more than 2 hours at the most. Even when I choose to fly a 747-400 from London to Beijing I takeoff, set up in the cruise and then press the good old "Y" key to slew to within an hour of Beijing. I too find high-altitude airliner cruising extremely boring http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/cwm/3dlil/sleep.gif Even on my two-hour hops I set the alarm clock to scream at me about 5 minutes before top-of-descent & then go play some Far Cry or GTA Vice City!Maybe its just me but the most fun parts about FS9 flying are:1. Takeoff2. Approach3. LandingAll I want to say is that I admire the real-life long haul flight crews, yes yes very pretty A340-600 but hats off to them for sitting in a seat like that for soooooooooooooooooo long!

Hmmmm, the time element is one of the reasons why I'm a "bush pilot" rather than a "big iron wrestler". I'm one of those whose attention wanders over time. In bush flying I can find places to land most anywhere. I should admit that I fly 95% of the time in the WA state - AK coastal area although I have done some really silly flying a few times. Was part of a convoy that flew over Mt. Everest in a helicopter once. That was an online flight with, I think, 4 other guys. And once in awhile I pick up a biggie plane and fly cross-country. Being's I live just a mile from Boeing's Everett plant (where I used to work) I'm more partial to Boeing planes than others but I do have some nice Embraer, Airbus, warplanes both large and small, the list goes on. :D

Sdyney to San Francisco, during a PIC-767 group flight, time was around 14 hrs plus. Now most of my fights are 1-3 hrs.

I did SFO-HNL with 767PIC back with FS2002 but definitely was not sitting in front of the computer the whole time...

Hello All,Well, I will have to admit, the longest flight I've ever attempted on the 'straight' (no xspeed, just real time) is 4 hours. AND I HAD TO REALLY FORCE MYSELF NOT TO SLEW .That is probably because in real life, I did the Andersen AFB, Guam to North Vietnam, and back more times in my youth than I care to remember. For anyone doing one of those, it rounds out to about 16 hours of straight flying and with the exception of 100nm before the Vietnam coast, the actual time over target and followed by the Post Target Turn, going back 100nm from the North, it was BORING -- BORING -- BORING, unless on the trip home you were nursing a damaged aircraft and then it was a pure adrenelin rush which left you exhausted for a week. The pilot who once said "flying combat missions was hours of bordom, followed by 2 minutes of utter terror', had it dead on, espicially in a large bomber with miles to travel.I can't begin to tell you some of the silly things we thought up to waste away the hours, not to mention straw polls to see who got to take a few hour nap, Yes a buff has a few bunks and hammocks, but no on in their right mind would want to sleep in them unless they absolutely had to!Believe me, crews in 747 crossing oceans have it lots better, including food and pretty flight attendants -- and we didn't have any flying females back then. So, back to the subject, I don't do loooooong flights in FS. Two hours now is just about my limit. In fact, many times, I do constant touch and go's just because the TO and landing is my thing. Since acquiring Active Sky 2004.5, I have to admit, I love watching the changing weather, its pretty darn good. And I also think some developers need to come up with some programs which will add more excitment to looooong flights. Something, anything which will add a bit of drama.Best to all this holiday seasonClayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. Dopke (Clay)Major, USAF (retired)"Drac"

Did this one a few months back.Computed route from PUDONG (ZSPD, ZS) to MELBOURNE INTL (YMML, YM): 55 fixes, 4547.1 nautical milesin pss a340-300 :-)

I can recall I did one from Washington Dulles to Frankfurt in a Luftanza 747. Around 8 1/2 hours? I had just gotten into FS2002 and wanted to re-create this flight as I had done it so many times in real life.I even departed close to real life time (around 6:30pm)and watched all the sunset appear up the Atlantic Coast and sunrise as I flew into Germany. WoW! I loved it. You gotta remember I was new to simming so even crossing the ocean in the middle of the night was exciting. What did I do during the cruise phase? Just like a regular passenger I read, did paperwork, and even messed around with my second PC exploring the places I was currently flying over.Boy, was I blurry-eyed when I landed (gee, just like in real life!). Infact when I got into my car that morning I felt like I was still flying (forget the technical term for that). Now, I usually do 1-3 hours max but I would like to do another flight I used to take Washington Dulles to Hong Kong Kai Tak all the time (14 hours?), but would like to try it in VATSIM or FPI. Haven't been online yet but hopefully one can chat with other flyers along the way. Otherwise I'm back to reading War & Peace while cruisin' ;)

Well i fly GA I like the old raound engins mostly at the tmoment im flying around the world yet again in the Beaver...lovely old plane.I do all my flying real time infrount of the computer. i try to keep my legs to 1 to 2 hours but sometimes that cant be done especally when crossing open water.Id say the longest if been is 6h and 30m from tasmaina to new zealand...but if i have to cut a flight short adn im over land i just plonk the old plane down in any old pasture (and hope the autogen trees dont change position when i start up fs again :))
