November 9, 201312 yr Very important that you also have SimHeaven's North America OSM! It will make your mid Ontario flights over the forests, just awesome. Thanks I have SimHeaven NA OSM, may be not the latest. I will check out tomorrow. Vu Pham i7-13700K 5.2 GHz OC, 64 GB RAM, RTX5090, SSD for Sim, SSD for system. MSFS2020, XP-12, DCS
November 9, 201312 yr Author Thanks I have SimHeaven NA OSM, may be not the latest. I will check out tomorrow. I'm not sure that OSM North America has been recently updated, but Europe OSM+Autogen sure has. I'm soon going to be crossing over the Channel...and let me tell you, I am amazed, simply amazed how one little add-on, can change the gameplay and how surface graphics are so now...naturally depicted (Urban Maxx 3D). Now..why did Laminar not come up with this??!?!?!?!???!??? It would have sold a heck of a lot more XP10 versions....let me tell ya! It is so different from the as-we-know-it (and great itself) ORBX 'look'...and in many ways...even more plausible. I never thought I would type that. The way the OSM and Xplane displays forested areas amongst rural farmland....and 'massaged' now by UrbanMaxx textures...is "I'm home, baby...I'm home...."! It made Xplane fully viable for competing with the other platforms in flight time. The hodge-podge of urban and cityscape before UrbanMaxx 3D rather sucked. Nothing is sucking now, man...absolutely nothing. All smiles....along the flight path....soon going over the great looking English Channel...and onto Dover.... Life...is good. Mitch
November 9, 201312 yr Mitch, yes the combination looks great allover Europe. Just came here to the coffee shop from a morning flight in the NEO A320 - loving it! - from Frankfurt to Berlin, and whow! It looks simply great. But I have installed the "grey" variant of UrbanMAXX Extreme. X-Plane 10 rules, it's scenery it's simply GREAT, and I will be able to fly PSX on it!!!! My weekend is done!!!! Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
November 9, 201312 yr Thanks I have SimHeaven NA OSM, may be not the latest. I will check out tomorrow. The Europe data, which was already more complete than the US data, was updated in September. The US data is from June I think. If you haven't tried Europe with Simheaven's latest package I strongly recommend it. Just go for a flight around the Swiss alps. Gobsmacking. (Make sure you already have AlPilotX's HD mesh, although V2 is on the way which you might want to wait for...) i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
November 9, 201312 yr SimHeaven's latest updated Europe OSM+Autogen, also running UrbanMaxx 3D on a dawn flight towards London, England. WOW.....wow.....and oh wow.... Just took off out of Berlin....latest nVidia driver suite, Xplane at Very high rez...30 FPS and smooooooooooooth as silk, with real weather downloaded. FSX is again on the back-burner for now.... )))))) Mitch, which version of SimHeaven do you use with UrbanMaxx 3D: Europe OSM only or Europe OSM + Autogen? BTW there is a 1.01 patch for the new B757 dealing with the SASL bug... Jan Betlach
November 9, 201312 yr Moderator I used UrbanMaxx v1 I think a while ago and it did improve the look of the US cities, but I very much prefer (where possible) to have the photoscenery and the OSM placed on top. Can't beat it in Europe, where coverage is really good. I don't have UrbanMaxx 2, but I'd very interested in seeing some screenshots of what this looks like when used in combination with OSM, if anyone would be kind enough to post a few screenies :-)
November 9, 201312 yr Hmmm, was going to wait until the new DSFs were out before making a decision about UrbanMAXX but if you guys say it's that good, then what the hell! I'm young and it's a Saturday night! I'm gonna go crazy and splash out! i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea

Now..why did Laminar not come up with this??!?!?!?!???!?? Well, one could say that they could have used that process of generic ortho-based textures, but Austin pooped all over that concept with his seemingly blind allegance to the plausible world idea. As a new owner of UrbanMaxx myself as well, I am thankful that at least somebody recognized that the "blades of grass upwards" method of constructing the X-Plane world is simply not ready for prime time, and did something about it. UrbanMaxx2 is not ideal if you are a high-altitude pilot, as it does have some texture repeating issues, but for lower and slower flight, it does make a substantial difference around metropolitain areas.

I think its a little bit harsh to say Austin did poop at it .... I would rather say, Austin accepted the vision of one of his artists and Ben Supnik who have envisioned the concept of the new urban cities ... period. Of course, I wouldn't dispute that it has not perfectly worked until now, but neither would I say that it is absolute garbage. The idea itself is quite good ... and at least if you look at 10.25 there are some new positive signs, which show you that there is something to it ... Still, I absolutely accept, that many of you like it the UrbanMAXXX way, thus its great that it exists and everybody can be happy the way he likes it .... November 9, 201312 yr Well, I would agree that Austin's plausible world was a step backwards to the look of FS98. I'm happy that an add on 'rescued' XP. At least for me.
November 9, 201312 yr My initial plan was to come into the sim community as an X-Plane 10 pilot but after reading about law suits and developers unwillingness to hop on board the X-Plane train at the time I moved to FSX. Nothing can beat a 64-bit native code framework. If DEVS would just.. jump in with both feet and balls to the wall I would have moved to X-Plane myself. November 9, 201312 yr Kuragiman, jump! We'll be here to catch you :-) Devs are increasing, both in their number and in the number of offers they have. The last three weeks were prone in excellent new aircraft add-ons, scenery add-on announcements, weather enhancements, etc... X-Plane 10 is becoming a great flight simulation platform, with bright future and already lot's of joy to give to their users. 64 bit, multi-platform, powerful, approaching maturity with 10.30 :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
November 9, 201312 yr Jcomm I love your enthusiasm, I feed off of this since and I also think other developers do! We wont let you down.....

I actually support the whole concept of how they want to implement the plausible world. Back when Aerosoft was first discussing its own possible sim and soliciting suggestions, I posted several videos championing similar technologies, and I still believe in the promise. When I look at XPX now and see the shortfalls, I think mainly that LR are having problems pulling it off at least partially due to the smallness of the team trying to reach a very ambitious goal, as well as limits on their data sources and how the sim reads and interprets those sources. But the basic concept is still sound, I think. If they can get it all to work, there wont be anything that can match it. Just imagine if they could reach something similar to this....... (By the way, I don't mean the graphics, I mean the building placement) We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.
