X-Plane 10.25RC1

Recommended Posts

The improvements are coming together nicely. Your first shot looks really good and with the addition of UrbamMAXX 3D, it works seamlessly. The only thing missing from that shot are the cloud shadows we once had...please bring back cloud shadows!!!!

Wow, I honestly thought X-Plane v10 had cloud shadows, but I've never noticed. Probably because I have to turn clouds of to get decent FPS :-)

XP10 actually has cloud shadows, but they are very light.

BUT...

What I found just now....

You can make them more visible via datarefeditor!

You can also change the resolution of the shadows, but the higher the resolution the greater is the fps loss.

BUT...

These are sim/privat datarefs.

Quote Ben Supnik:

"Your plugin, panel, or object should not depend on any sim/private datarefs! They should only be used for diagnostics/debugging."

You need the Datarefeditor, that's a plugin.

You can download it here:

http://www.xsquawkbox.net/xpsdk/mediawiki/DataRefEditor

-Install it, then start XP10 and go to the plugins menu.

-Klick on Datarefeditor, then on Art Controls.

-In the lower left-hand corner there is actually a search window, klick it and type in "clouds shadow".

-For the numbers, please see my pics above.

It resets itself to default when you quit XP.

The thing that really bugs me about the shadows, is the fact it makes such a huge difference in the credibility of the simulation. The above screenshots you posted Marcus, are day and night. The shadows are an important part of successfully drawing the sim-pilot into the environment. I hope Laminar is working to upgrade this for 10.30.
