Prepar3D v 2.0 will come out in November

LM made it clear that your GPU will be challenged alot and to get the best you can afford.

Do we know if P3D v2 will support multi GPU, or SLI in particular?  Presumably so?  If so I do have room for one more though my PSU will not have a lot of overhead in it at that point, but I think it will be adequate at least according to PSU calculator here:

I'm also thinking since motion isn't so fast in flight simulation compared for example to First Person Shooters or other action games the need for mega video processing power that has gamers wanting that for those sorts of games may not really apply to flight simulation.

This is really fantastic can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!

If NVidia Inspector is even needed I'd call P3D2 a failure in terms of graphics engine overhaul. Let's hope the NI days are over.

Lots of addons that rely on Acceleration features will still not work, unless P3D has bought that source code from MS. A2A Simulations and Milviz are some of the devs that use ACC features for many of their aircraft.

I just checked the Prepar3D SDK vs the FSX:A SDK... exact same variables... why would you think Acceleration features are not in Prepar3D?  Who told you this?  They are certainly there as near as I can tell from a developer aspect.

Actually P3D works better with multiple linked computers. One to handle the sim and the others to handle the graphics.

I saw a bona fide training simulator for the Saab Grippen that needed 11 computers to work properly. Only one was handling the simulation. The other 10 were handling the graphics. Like: One for the HUD, One for each terrain display. One for each MFDs, etc.

If you have the disposable income, you can try using two computers for better performance. One handles the simulation and the other one handles the graphics output.

Can someone tell me if all PMDG products will not work in P3D2, or just everything from the T7 and beyond?

People... FSX was in hospital for a long time. Lets be gentle with the patient when it is released, it will be stronger but we need to learn how to handle its strengths.

Boy no thanks on multiple computers if I don't need it. A training simulator for the Saab has to be quite different from running P3D as most users will, as a training/entertainment package. I'd rather have one really strong workhorse and leave it at that for simplicity's sake in terms of maintenance. I even have FSX & Win 7 on a single fast SSD and all's well and makes for ultra simple backups/clones. I hope to be able to install P3D on this drive as well, even though there seems to be some taboo on this which I feel is largely legacy concern from the days of HDD's, unless there is something fundamentally different about P3D and FSX in this regard. I have fabulous file system performance in FSX. One would predict a slight perf advantage for separates fast SSD's, but I believe this will be slight, and likely not perceptible by end users.

I do wonder about HT for P3D.

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

sorry to be a party pooper, but I'm not really that impressed.

this isn't a 64bit platform meaning that OOM can still occur, and from what I'm seeing, the dreadful blurry terrain tiles are still very much present. not to mention that the clouds lightning look a bit unrealistic, and cartoonish.

Time will tell if this is a true FSX replacement or not, but from what I've seen, I am not holding my breath :-(

Fsx is not a 64bit platform either but you still use it and buy things for it. This is the biggest leap forward in terms of desktop flight simulation we have seen probably since FS9 came out. I have tried P3D version 1.4 and the stability of it alone is something that won me over. Finally a fully supported flight simulator that is evolving, I'd rather have it than be stuck with a broken 2006 product that has long been unsupported. I am very keen to get my hands on this.

Any 3D program can make some use of SLI. Unfortunately FSX, P3d 1.4 and P3d 2.0 are not "optimized for SLI". Here's a recent thread that discusses what kind of improvements you can expect with FSX and P3d 1.4 in SLI:

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/425075-sli-framerate-tests/?hl=%2Bsli#entry2844637

LM has stated in their forum that SLI optimization will be provided in a subsequent update to version 2.0. So for now, it makes no sense to buy a 2nd identical  nVidia card if you are only running programs that are not designed to work efficiently with SLI. But that is solely a cost consideration. What I mean by that, is one is better off buying a new top of the line card rather than buying a second GTX 680, etc..

Of course, in your case, you have a Titan, so you should wait until P3D 2.1 (or whatever) comes out if you want to buy another one.

I guess you're right.

Can anyone figure out the pricing?! What is required in order to use it like FSX? Is it the 49 dollar or 199 dollar version? Or is it the 9 dollar per month deal?!?!

Unless you are a developer, plan to become one, or need to be able to run P3D on two linked computers, the monthly license would be a waste of your money.

Shadow processing is very intensive (GPU -- it can be done on the CPU but not many would accept 0.5 to 1 fps on a top tier 5GHz CPU) and in order to prevent double blending you have to use a stencil buffer.

To give an environment "life" lighting and shadows are extremely important to the visual perception.  It will take considerable GPU processing power to render all the shadows in such an open environment like we have in Flight Simulators ... but this goes back to my statements a few months ago about the need for multiple GPUs and Crossfire/SLI support.  LM have indicated this might be in v2.1 (which is smaller incremental update that probably means sooner rather than later).

BUT from what I've seen of all the kind folks posting pictures and video, v2.0 to me looks like a giant step forward for flight simulator enthusiasts.
