B737-500 Crash Lands In Russia killing all on board

Recommended Posts

Saw a video of the aircraft's final moments.  It basically plunged nose first, the path a straight vertical drop perpendicular to the ground.   Hard to see how this happened when it was just making a second approach to the runway, at vref app speeds.

So sad.  And unlike the majority of Russian crashes that happen with alarming frequency, this was not an old russian designed airframe.

For a plane to plunge nose first vertically into the ground like that, your likely bets are either the tailplane separated or the pilots got disoriented during the go-around and either flew her straight into the ground or stalled it.

I don't think the Russian history of accidents ever was about the airframes, but rather the Russian pilot's training, attitude and culture.

That would be interesting.  I'm not too familiar with their recent history as far as training quality is concerned, but something has to change.  There seems to be a fatal accident there every few months, something is obviously wrong.  I think the last accident was that russian 757 copycat aircraft that someone captured crashing next to them while they were on a freeway.

aviation-safety.net is a good site for both the actual crashes and the airline history.

Tatarstan Airlines was forbidden to fly into the EU

ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry.

This does seem like a botched go around and another case of somatogravic illusion.

Have a look at this accident from 2008, the behaviour of the flight crew is Unbeleivable, especially the captain!

I guess flying under influence of alcohol and fatigued because of too long working hours isn't the best combination indeed... Seems like these accidents in Russia mostly happen to smaller airlines, for example that flight was operated by Aeroflot-Nord instead of the actual main company.

That conversation between the Captain and FO was about as unprofessional as you can get! You simply can't have that kind of attitude when you are responsible for the lives of countless passengers in a civilian airliner. In addition, did they actually know how to fly an aircraft??

That's even scarey on the simulator.

Well at least kudos to the Russian ATC for trying to get these guys squared away. Wonder what their duty logs looked like?  Probably no worse than some of our (USA) regional pilots.
