I agree. Its just that x plane doesn't have very many good airplane addons yet. But pmdg will change that!

You'd be amazed at what is available now. This is not your grandfather's Xplane anymore.

We have Flightfactor´s 757/777, FlyJSim´s 727 (with the B732 coming soon), some of the best Airbus addons available for any sim platform (Peter´s Aircraft A320/321, QPAC A320, JARDesign A320 neo), the Leading Edge Simulation SAAB 340A (might be the best turboprop Simulation I´ve ever flown in a desktop sim), the SSG 747-8i, the J Rollon CRJ-200, just to name a few... ;-)

My $.02 if I may, PLEASE don't give up on Linux :rolleyes:

 

X-Plane 10 in 64bit Linux is an absolute joy. While PMDG could drag me back to Windows kicking and screaming, I would really prefer not to go down that road. Besides, I just recently repartioned my hard disk. B)

 

I do hope that PMDG support Linux but if they dont i will not bring me back to Windows. Linux is a very stable platforme for Flight Simulation !

After another month with XP10 in 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (run LXDE for best performance), I tend to agree. XP10 in Linux is rock solid, I can't imagine going back.

 

Not a single crash in the past month, FPS steady whether 3 minutes or 3 weeks of uptime. Wonderful.

I wouldn't expect any news until 10.30 is released and even then long after for more testing. There won't be any news until it's the home stretch. I just saw one X-plane developer blow up as another dev released the exact same plane he had been working on for over a year. There are some really skilled Xplane developers who could rapidly release an alternative to PMDG offering which could screw future Xplane growth from the PMDG holdouts.

I truly look forward to a PMDG product for X-plane mainly because I have a Mac and only use Windows 7 for FSX.

 

I truly love the flight dynamics, lighting and overal look of X-plane 10 but it is missing good planes. The only one I enjoy is the JRollon CRJ 200.

This is great news!  I've been a long time user of MSFS products since the SubLogic days.  IMHO, FSX has been pushed well beyond it's limits the last few years and I am one who has experienced those limitations on numerous occasions(OOM anyone?).  Not to mention the idea of continual development on an 8+ year old piece of software(considered ancient in this industry) is unimaginable anywhere else.  It is a very weird market.  I digress...

 

With all this said, and the circus that is P3Dv2 (and still a 32bit sim!), I decided to try the XPX demo about a month ago.  I was astounded by the performance, the dynamics(simply amazing!) and just the raw simplicity of managing the sim and it's external add-ons.  I really was blown away!  Not to mention the simple fact it's 64bit which gives you a huge amount of room to work with.  And it utilizes today's hardware to it's potential.

 

Needless to say I bought it and will now focus my efforts(and funds) into expanding this platform as my FS successor to FSX.

 

Looking forward to PMDG's first XPX product!

And there is no reason why you can't keep FSX around and use what you have and enjoy, but building and investing in that platform seems pointless when another better, scale-able, actively developed platform is available. And PMDG stated themselves, when they call Laminar Research for help, they get the red carpet.
