P3D?

Recommended Posts

I have been flying ins FSX since it came out, but now it's old and out dated. Currently I am looking at P3D, because it is FSX and more. I am currently in a predicament, P3D or FSX. I just recently got a new PC (64-bit, lots of RAM, ect), but FSX can't use that to its fullest potential, and I am just sick of all the issues I have been having with it now. What is holding me back is all the payware I have for FSX. I don't want to loose the $100+ I spent on making the sim as real as possible, and the biggest lose will be PMDG's aircraft. I have heard of the migration tool, but will that work with all my sceneries, aircraft, ect...(even the NGX)?... So is it worth me getting P3D? or not?

PMDG's EULA currently does not allow any of their add-ons to be used with P3D.  So for now and until further notice, you can't legally use your PMDG aircraft in P3D.  Discussions about use of the migration tool or other end-arounds to the EULA will quickly make you persona non grata here, so don't try to go there in these forums, please.

Compatibility with other acft and sceneries is a mixed bag right now.  There's a thread pinned to the top of this forum that will be tallying compatibility with P3D V2 as the rollout gets under way.

The migration tool in and of itself is not an issue as there are many addons out there where you are free to port them over to P3D.  Probably best to just read the developer forums for all of the details.

Yes...and to clarify, the prohibition is on discussing use of the migration tool or any other discussion on how to install an add-on into P3D for those add-ons where the developer has prohibited it in their EULA.  Certainly use of the migration tool and discussions about using it are OK as long as it's not an attempt to facilitate or to solicit others to facilitate EULA violations.

Personally, I think that if P3D turns out to be the hit it's shaping up to be, many developers will quickly re-think their positions on P3D or be left far behind by their more forward-thinking competitors.  But until then, we're not allowing the forums to become a clearinghouse for how-to guides on violating end user agreements or the endless and tedious debates on the legality of doing so.  Those are the rules of the house here.

It is worth going to the website of each and every developer that you have bought something from. On the developers website it will normally say whether or not their products will work. PMDG does not legally work in P3D, but I would keep a look out after P3D V2 is released, the market may force them to change their stance.

My recommendation is to go carefully into the night.

The devil you know vs the devil you don't.  If you, like most of us, have invested $1,000s in addons and have an FSX the purrs along quite well and gives you great entertainment/simming value, then hang on to what you got.

Sure get P3D v2.  Test it out, be sure its going to do for you what you might think it will.  Let the dust settle a while before just removing and leaving FSX.

Heck I still have FS9 on a separate drive and have actually taken it for a spin just a week ago on some old scenery that is not compatible with FSX.

Cheer

This is great news!

I do not currently own a PMDG product and was looking to forgo PMDG as I will be utilizing P3DV2 as my primary platform.  Now this places one or multiple PMDG products on my "To Purchase" list.  Hopefully things sort out favorably for PMDG and its current and future customers.

Perhaps bigger news than P3DV2 itself. Of course, I assume the pricing will be way out of my affordability index.

Well to be fair, RSR's update earlier this week pretty much said they had not ruled it out, but had issues to work through before it might happen.  I didn't read it as adamantly against it at all.

Regardless of how we got here, I'm glad to see this...it will give P3D some much needed momentum that will pull in some of the hesitant devs.

I agree that this is very good news indeed...very exciting.

I'm happily using FSX right now but I've been struggling with the fact that it has no future and I've been trying to decide where to go next.  To be honest, I will go wherever PMDG goes.  As a result, I've been only mildly curious about Prepar3d so far but with this announcement I feel like there's hope and I can take a closer look at it.  When I got up this morning I wasn't going to buy it at all, but now I'll probably buy it this week.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes!
