Autogen popping up or not? Make my day!

It's also worth noting that autogen popup is dependent on keeping autogen settings reasonable for your hardware.  With max autogen (and max = insane amount) at anything higher than 'high' LOD and autogen shadows turned on, I can easily overburden my system, at which point I get massive popups.

As I understand things LOD 6.5 is the default setting, unless it's changed since 1.4...

I set the detail distance to max and I cannot believe how clear it is (no blurries) and the autogen certainly does not pop into view at least from what I could tell. I think this will be a great base platform for sure.

Overall it is a bit better. But i still have blurries, micro stutter and floating trees. Less than with FSX, but these issues are not gone!

And of course the scenery is still ugly. No major improvements for me. Definately not worth 199$...

I actually can't believe how well it runs on my rig (even with the "eye candy" shadow settings on). What's your hardware like Heimi?

I noticed the blurries remain as well. If you are flying something fast and low expect to see the blurry terrain textures before they load in as we have come to know and hate in FSX..

But as for the autogen pop up, they have virtually eliminated it.

I think the problem is fellas, is that we have all had such a long time to generate our own personal expectations of this release that the reality is somewhat different. A little like taking a new lady out on a date and it not turning out to be quite what you had expected  I think it will be just about inviting the lady out for a second date and seeing her for what she really is and not what you hope she'd be...

She turned out to be a keeper...

Then you'll have to pop the question Dylan!

There is popup, if you have the LOD at max 6.5, its hard to notice as its a long way off on the horizon if you are flying low, but it definitely has been popping in on me, its nowhere near as noticeable as it was in FSX though.

That's good enough for me.  Popping off in the distance where you can barely see it is fine, IMO.  Buildings and trees popping up right under the nose of the plane or right off the wingtip, constantly jarring you out of "the moment" and right back to reality FSX-style, is not.

As far as the autogen is concerned, I am happy! Autogen as far as the eye can see and no popping up at all! It's incredible! Unfortunately that's also everything that P3D wants to give me. All the new shadows options etc. hurt my GTX580 way too much. Turning on more reflections also is too much. Add to that the rather crappy and disappointing AA (doesn't come close to what I was used to with FSX!) and the fact that vsync usually doesn't work (big bummer) and er... well, I could be happier. As it is now FSX did look better for sure.

I sort of expected that I would only be able to run P3D with similar settings as FSX and nothing more but well, of course I was hoping for more. And as ALSO was to be expected: now I have SEEN those incredible shadows all over the place (even though it was with <10 fps) I have to say it looks awesome... and I want it LOL But I also have to say that I can't imagine that going from a GTX580 to a GTX780 will enable me to enable (almost) all those options. Performance is too low for that right now. Even though I have an i5 2500K @ 4.5 GHz. SO I am in doubt what to do. I am afraid that my investment in a GTX780 will only disappoint me...

But well, I only fooled around for an hour or so, so I can't already say what I think of P3D, of course (half of the time was spend trying to get rid of the black screen). I do use Extremely dense autogen and I don't know yet if this results in more autogen than I had in FSX. Maybe I should lower that one notch and see of I can enable some shadow options then. I have to say that installing FTX Global seemed to hurt performance a bit, which wasn't the case with FSX. Maybe I should turn off the lights and see what happens.

Anyway, my first conclusion so far is that in all honesty P3D 2.0 looks worse than FSX on my PC and the only good thing is the autogen which doesn't pop up anymore and reaches to the horizon. Performance is often very smooth though, even when fps is clearly lower than in FSX.

Overall emotion: rather disappointed but still hopeful.

Coming from someone who owns a GTX 780, it is well worth it. I'm maxed out and have yet to fall below 25fps.

You have perfectly summarized my thoughts. Our systems are pretty much alike, so I feel your pain ;) I am also looking at a video card upgrade, but waiting for some more reports before deciding on a gtx780ti, Titan, or perhaps waiting for the next generation of cards.. Would love to see some benchmarks, but I guess it might take a while before we see that as release of p3d v2 was less than 24hrs ago.

That might well be but I have no clue what your preferred settings are... I am an autogen nut, for instance, and maybe you have autogen at dense. As I said, if I turn on shadows for buildings and trees, the performance get such a huge hit that I can't imagine even a GTX780 will fix that. Maybe I am totally wrong but those cards aren't cheap so I want to be sure... ^_^

Glad I am not alone on this one. ^_^ I have to say though that after posting what I did, I went back to Norway for a short flight above some rural area's and they really nicely fixed that autogen problem. I actually can see autogen as far as I can see and it's awesome! I also noticed the loading of the ground textures has improved. And when you aren't stressing your system the flying it as smooth as I have never seen before. Truth has to be told.

So now I COULD say I am happy after all but one thing is really spoiling it: tearing... Vsync simply won't work at all now. I will search for some more experiences with that of start a new topic for it. Because as it is now that really spoils it.

Vsync simply won't work at all now.

Then if that's the case, I'll stick with FSX. There ain't no way I'm flying with the screen tearing...
