You can't tell me that XP is better than this!

Featured Replies

I can post some defualt pics that look better then that ! Just saying.... What reef/mountain addons are you talking about ?

The ones in those pics where the reef/sandbar whatever extends from the shore of the mountains are not stock XP scenery. That's some kind of photoscenery.

No doubt XP is better looking in some scenarios (it supports multiple points of illumination for starters) but so what?

Many of us just find XP way too limited right now so having P3Dv2 give us many of the visual features XP has had a monopoly on since v10 can only be a good thing.

Why can't people just enjoy the sim that they are currently using? Why does it always have to be either or? The constant sniping back and forth is getting old.

Yes, it is getting old very quickly. This is a Prepar3D forum. Please leave the comparisons elsewhere.

How much is Prepar3d + ADDONS ? a couple of thousands ?

How much is XPX + ADDONS ? a couple of hundred maybe ?

I don't have to give my money to ORBX every month to make the base scenery look nice !

Of course you do. XP's base scenery is deeply flawed. The whole plausible "only summer" world thing with no landmarks doesn't do it for many people, including myself.

I am downloading Prepar3d now, so I will see how it stacks up. Does Prepar3d have global lighting ?

The sun (and moon) is actually a light source now. All scenery is affected by it unlike FSX. This casts shadows on everything, changes terrain lighting, scenery/building illumination, etc.

It does not have multiple points of illumination though, so that's the visual area XP still holds a distinct advantage. Apparently they are aware of it and are trying to implement it down the line.

V2 doesn't support global illumination. X-Plane does.

Like everyone else I have been trying p3d  v2 today.   The time lapse thing is a nice feature that would be good for xplane.  Strange thing is though if you go from day to night in p3d with the preview it works but then when you click OK it reloads everything.

I guess it still is using night textures.  Thats unfortunate with the new engine because xpx looks much better at night than p3d v2 right now but at least p3d now has the engine to do it the same way.

"K" key and "L" go forward and back in time. Pressing the "shift" key speeds it up. Another feature X-Plane also had first :P

P3d $60

All my addons are From fsx so they were basicly free as I bought them for fsx and just happen to be able to re use them so I think I'm at a grand total $60 maybe more once I transfer my rex license to p3d. A hundred maybe but Not thousands.

These kinds of threads remind me of walking through the shopping mall and getting approached by a 7th day adventist.  After telling him/her/them that I'm not interested in becoming one, they continue to point out the good things involved in becoming one and to "just give it a chance".

Why is a preference for a flight sim a competition??

I'll chime in here, since I use both P3d2 and XP10 and in my opinion, they have about the same IQ and performance. To me, P3d2 still has the advantage because of all the 3rd party FSX toys.

I have it running today  (yesterday was just to test the base version with no add-ons) with FSUIPC (see more below), FTX Global, TrackIR and OPUSFSX. I also added a few aircraft like the A2A 172. The REX water and sky textures also increase the realism. All that and the sliders set  at or at a notch below the max on a couple of settings like Tessellation, LOD and shadows. Nice smooth performance. No CTDs, flashing scenery, popping autogen, stutters or anything else that is disruptive. No tweaking the cfg file either.

FSUIPC4 works with P3d2, but a lot of people have posted that the add on's UI doesn't appear. The only way to make changes is to use FSX or P3d 1.4 to edit the FSUIPC4.ini file to your liking and then copy it over. This is somewhat of a pain, but there may be a workaround for this soon, I hope.

This is really not about P3d2 vs XP10, but rather P3d and XP10 vs FSX. Remember what Joe said in the movie Idiocracy:

I wonder that myself. There is a reason I bought a 2TB hard drive. That way X-Plane 10, FSX, War Thunder, DCS and now currently downloading - P3Dv2 can all fit on it in harmony!

Is it done yet? When will it be released? Will it be freeware or payware? How much will it cost? Any updates on the progress? Will it work for Xbox? Can I be a beta tester? How's the performance in VR?
