November 26, 201312 yr Commercial Member Well, I spent all night thinking about video cards... Then I went through my stuff, and realized I bought my 6970 in January 2011... So it's performed admirably for almost 3 years. Which is great, and it's served me well, but I ended up deciding that I deserved an early xmas present. ^_^ I now have a spanking new 780(Ti) installed in my simming pc! I debated hard about the 3Gb vs. 6Gb of Vram, but in the end I decided I just couldn't justify the extra $350. Anyway, if I was fairly pleased yesterday with the performance that I had manged to tune my settings for on my 6970, you can imagine the smile on my face this morning. I don't have any worthwhile benchmarks, and I've been constantly shifting my settings around testing stuff, seeing what kind of impact it all has, etc, but oh man... I've been touring around Seattle and New York with nearly everything far right + shadows... very, very smooth. Easily holding a locked 30fps, if I unlock it hovers around 40 - 50 fps. I just flew threw Manhattan at skyscraper height in the F-22 with volumetric fog on and foggy weather - that was amazing... Very happy simmer right now. I have the FTXG installer downloading, then I'll be tossing a few things into the sim and.. my wife likely won't see me for a week! Jim Stewart Milviz Person.
November 26, 201312 yr you can imagine the smile on my face this morning I sure can!!! I just had a look at the prices of the various cars and noticed I can get TWO GTX780's for the price of ONE Titan... That's ridiculous, of course. I probably will be better off getting a GTX780 now and maybe another one when LM has added SLI support. Two GTX780 will surely demolish a Titan. (Then again I know you seldom add a second card to a PC later on because by then newer cards will be available for the same price... and you also need a better power unit, I suppose). So the GTX780 or the GTX780Ti it will be. Now I will have to figure out what the differences are and if it is worth the money. I have to say that after looking at the Titan a GTX780 seems almost cheap...! Some 425 euro's and it's mine already!

November 26, 201312 yr So the GTX780 or the GTX780Ti it will be. Now I will have to figure out what the differences are and if it is worth the money. Same here. Price difference is about EUR200. However, I haven't got a clue yet as to what the difference between the two cards in terms of performance will be. Best regards, Alexander Rietveld

SLI doesn't combine them into one pool. Just wanted to make sure you knew that. But yes, two GTX 780s have to be better in P3D 2.0 than one Titan so I would go for a 780 if I were you and maybe get another one when 2.1 comes out.
November 26, 201312 yr SLI doesn't combine them into one pool. Just wanted to make sure you knew that. No, I didn't! So thanks for that! Still, it's not only the VRAM that's important. I will get a GTX780 or maybe a GTX780Ti (depending on my findings the coming days). And yes, maybe I will add a GTX780 it later on but I don't think that will result in such a step forward as going from a GTX580 to a GTX780...? I think I would only do that if the prices have REALLY gone down.
November 26, 201312 yr I personally plan to upgrade from my 6850 with 1 GB to this EVGA 770 OC 4GB. With my existing card I'm really seeing how there is not enough RAM, causing the performance decreases I'm seeing. Unfortunately I'll be waiting until after Christmas. :(
November 26, 201312 yr So far, VRAM usage for me has been 2.3 GB of course this is with everything default. Need to take a closer look as I've been far too busy having fun, oops I mean learning.
November 26, 201312 yr Can someone please help me? I have a GTX 780 16GB Ram and a Haswell processor 4GHZ. Should I be using Nvidia? If yes what settings should I e using? Do I need to tweak anything? If so what? I am getting a black out screen when flying ? Should I be getting this? I have a new system , fresh formatted SSD drive. I think I am doing something wrong - help please! Paul
November 26, 201312 yr Don´t forget AMD RADEON R9 290 or R9 290X, both are monsters! 4 GB VRAM! Could be but I am hearing bad things about the quality (hardware: fans you can't trust) and drivers (but that may be old news). I'd first would have to read some experiences from people who use P3D 2,0 with an RX9 290X before I consider these cards. 4 GB VRAM sounds nice though...!

Unfortunately I'll be waiting until after Christmas. :( You've got me curious since I will have to replace my (relatively) ancient GTX550Ti (1GB VRAM) soon. I've noticed that Tiger Direct offers EVGA for $449.99 (highest price) to a PNY for $389.99 (lowest price), yet all of them claim the same specifications... ...it's all so confusing! Fr. November 26, 201312 yr Should I be using Nvidia? If yes what settings should I e using?I am getting a black out screen when flying ? Should I be getting this? How do you mean if you should be using Nvidia...? You mean Inspector? Some say it works, some say it doesn't. To get rid of the black screen you have to make sure P3D is in windowed mode before you quit. If you forgot to do that, open the Prepar3D.cfg and set Fullscreen=True to False. That will prevent the black screen from happening. ...it's all so confusing! It sure is. The problem with P3D is that VRAM is important. For normal games I think a GTX780 would always be better: the GPU itself is almost 30% faster than the GTX700 which imho is a LOT!! Will that 1 GB of extra VRAM really make such a difference...?! I doubt it. I think I rather have the overall faster card.

November 26, 201312 yr Author Uh oh... 2.3 Gb is a lot of VRAM for just default, I dread to think what it could be after putting in OrbX sceneries or the like.
