for the lucky ones already flying V2 : graphic card ?

But isn't FTX Global the same resolution as the default? I don't think it should use up more memory. I think the planes and airports are what use up memory the most but I could be wrong.

I've read various reviews in the meantime. It's only getting more complicated LOL The GTX780Ti is the fastest single GPU card around but I also read for instance that if you play only on 1920x1080 the card is overkill and way too expensive... but of course (and unfortunately) just as FSX, P3D isn't a normal game... The R9 290X comes close to the Ti and is faster than the GTX780 AND it has 4 GB VRAM which is very interesting, of course...! So I don't want to rule out the R9 just yet. Specially since it's cheaper than the GTX780Ti... We still don't really know how important VRAM really is, do we?

Phew, complicated....

Still, I am only going to spend this money once and I rather have the BEST card right now than almost the best card. But well, if the card doesn't get used to its full potential it would be a waste of money. So that's why I am also very interested in the importance of VRAM. Like that GTX770 which seems to have 4 GB VRAM, 1 GB more than the GTX780: wouldn't it be better in the case of P2D 2.0 to get that GTX770 then...?

Someone from LM posted on the P3D site that you would likely be better off with a 780 3GB card over the 770 4GB.  I just tried to find that post, but I have a hard time finding anything on that site,

I have a 4770k @ 4.4 ghz and a 780. I find the best performance is limiting frame rate to 40. Even when I remove the limiter I am seeing nowhere near 60 fps. I have ftx global.

I have a 4770k @ 4.2GHz and a 780 SC. It all depends where you're flying and what all your settings are at.  I also have FTX Global installed and can easily hit 60 fps away from cities.

Thanks! That's one problem solved once and for all. So we've got a few options: GTX780, GTX780Ti, Titan (too expensive, really: only interesting because of the 6 GB VRAM) and the AMD R9 290X. So... what's it going to be?

Look at some bench marks the Titan only scores a few FPS above the 780 I'd save the 200 pounds and get a 780. I went with a 770 4gb as I feel the more Vram the better as P3D isn't maxing out my GPU but it is maxing my 2GB of vram on my 660TI

My graphics card is an  EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB SC w/ ACX Cooler . . . and I cannot recommend it enough.  It is very quiet and runs cool, and is very nearly as fast as a 780 Ti (and actually beats the Titan in some benchmarks). NewEgg currently has it for $510: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130918

ATI is reportedly behaving rather squirrely in P3D. nVidia seems to be the card that FSX (and its derivatives) love.

I just placed an order for the GTX780 (exact make/model as Arwen's card). I got the Dual FTW for a few dollars more although I have no idea what dual FTW even is - but the stock overclock is higher, and that's good enough for me!

Finally, after reinstalling windows 7 and enabling Aero peek, Getting very good to excellent performance with a GTX 680 OC, 2 meg. I only use 2 monitors also. I sure wouldn't wouldn't upgrade to a 780.

Glad to see things are working out for you now.

I would definately go with GTX780 3GB card. If LM intends to provide SLI support in the future, two of those cards would be fabulous.

Intel i7 10700K | Asus Maximus XII Hero | Asus TUF RTX 3090 | 32GB HyperX Fury 3200 DDR4 | 1TB Samsung M.2 (W11) | 2TB Samsung M.2 (MSFS2020) | Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280mm AIO | 43" Samsung Q90B | 27" Asus Monitor

I have a GTX 780 ASUS DirectCU II (which in turbomode achieves clockspeeds of 1.2 ghz )

After two days of fiddling with P3D v2 I can honestly say that this card wipes the floor with P3D, I can only imagine what monsters like GTX Titan or 780TI can do when in the right hands...

By no means I'm holding my sliders back, I usually have them 1 notch from maxed (which is sensible IMHO) add to that SweetFX which means extra GPU workload.

FPS locked in the sim at 30 and generally stays there. I lose FPS from the "menu bug" (restored by ALT clicking) and when REX injects wx to P3D.

Cheers

So that just says a low end 4 GB card. Considering the 770 outperforms a 680, I wouldn't call it "low end". It definitely doesn't have the power of the 780, 780ti, or Titan to be sure. So since "2GB is probably safe assuming you're not running a ton of monitors", if you are running more monitors wouldn't 4 GB help more than 3 GB? I have 3 24" monitors, but my system won't handle the full 5760x1200 currently (even in FSX). Knowing I want to throw that at it, I'm leaning more towards the RAM, versus processing power. If I could afford it and convince SWMBO, a Titan would answer both problems. So in balancing cost/performance/RAM/WAF, for my personal situation I'm thinking the 770.

You've got me curious since I will have to replace my (relatively) ancient GTX550Ti (1GB VRAM) soon.

I've noticed that Tiger Direct offers EVGA for $449.99 (highest price) to a PNY for $389.99 (lowest price), yet all of them claim the same specifications...

...it's all so confusing!

I don't know if you're still looking at this, but EVGA has basically the same card, with slightly different specs for different models. The one I linked to was the highest overclocked by them. If you want to OC the card yourself you can definitely save some money. They do this across lots of the GPU lines. So the PNY may have been a stock clock versus the EVGA. Personally though I prefer the support EVGA give over other manufacturers.

Makes me think my GTX 460 isn't going to cut it, I'm getting some choppy movements, especially in the VC and my Logitech Attack3 JS isn't working despite calibration, movements work somewhat but are very limited and it doesn't work at all for Taxi..

Having read some reviews, I'm about 99% decided on just springing for the EVGA 780Ti (OC'd) from Tiger Direct (free shipping from them!). Even though I could go to the TD store, I'm not going to pay the 6% Illinois sales tax! I can wait a few days for delivery... :)

(except AI traffic which stays at a modest 15%).

I finally got MyTraffic 5.4c to work with P3d2. Keep in mind that the new MyTraffic P3d2 native installer is not due out until at least until the end of the year, so what follows may not be a typical result. With the settings at the same levels as in P3d 1.4 (30% commercial and 10% GA), the frame rates are worse than in P3d 1.4. I have no idea why this is the case, but around big airports, I can only pull 11-12 fps, whereas in the countryside, I easily can get 30 fps locked with my settings. I would say that P3d2 has some problems with AI traffic, but I still would like to see how other AI packages are working with version 2.0.

As a general aside, I also got  the A2A C172 to run okay (still testing every aspect though, which is tedious). Even though A2A recommends manually moving all the aircraft's files from either FSX or P3d 1.4, the installer managed to work okay for me by just pointing to the P3d2 folder.
