for the lucky ones already flying V2 : graphic card ?

Featured Replies

Interesting, and that seems like an real engineering weakness, i.e. that SLI wasn't designed to take advantage all VRAM.  OTOH 6gb is likely more that V2 may ever be able to use...

Each card needs its VRAM to render the scene. Nothing is being wasted. All SLI does is gives 1/2 the screen to each card. So each card is in a way on their own.

Patience is a virtue. Specially when you want to keep your P3D install clean and tidy.

Me too.  I'm keeping FSX on board for 'serious' flying, which I equate to continuing my VA using FSPax ;o)   It sounds like Q1 2014 when T7 will be out.  I need to find a way to run FSPax or something like it in V2.

You want SLI/crossfire utilization for improved performance (the P3Dv2 lighting system - shadows which are now GPU based) ... 6GB should be enough for 4K and tri-monitor.

Well, I'm running 3 TFTs with 6016x1200 full screen on a Sapphire Radeon HD7950 OCed at 1050/1500 with 3 GB VRAM.

Default P3Dv2, 4xMSAA (RadeonPro enhancing Adaptive) and 16xAF, Tessellation off, shadows off, Mesh 5m, Water High, all other sliders maxed out (and as usual: FPS unlimited). Looks great!

I'm hitting the 3 GB VRAM Limit (considering overhead) once I choose the default "Thunderstorm" weather theme. FPS immediately drop and the RAM DIMMs get hot.. ;)

So, I think it's not all about GPU core power but VRAM might be also an issue here. I3570k OCed at 4,4 GHz with tessellation and shadows off might be capable of >30 fps but my RAM with VRAM full might be not. Will continue testing..

Cheers,

FS2020

Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

For reference, I tried to run the same flight scenario in FSX DX10 (with Steve's most excellent DX10 Controller) - using FTX 1.1, FB KSFO, REX OD 32bit wave and get as close to all the detail settings in P3Dv2 using the default Beech 58 and I got immediate chimes in FSX, tried to taxi to runway at 5 fps and then OOM.

Same scene in P3Dv2, no OOM with a worst case 19 fps on up to 30 fps (locked).

So clearly, with the right hardware, A LOT more can be accomplished in P3Dv2.  I'm putting together a comparison video of FSX DX10 and P3Dv2 with Fraps frame rate counter overlay along with FSUIPC VAS usage and I'll try to find something showing GPU VRAM usage realtime also.  But so far, P3Dv2 is about 2X or more on average better in terms of just fps and it's VAS usage is considerably better.

My quickly sliding back into the mid-range 7950 is doing very well at 1200p.

Sure wish I could reliably use them both  :Nerd:

For you potential 780 buyers I see all this 780ti talk you can get my version 780 for cheaper and it has better clocks than a reference 780ti.
My EVGA ACX 780 runs great cool and quiet and has eaten everything I've thrown at it so far I haven't even bothered to overclock it,

the default clocks are more than enough to handle everything I'm playing.

Blueshark, my card is also the EVGA 780 SC w/ACX cooler.  I just tested flying around Boston with autogen set on very dense and with building shadows on, with FTX: Global installed [which results in a loss of about 5 FPS in Boston, but the scenery also looks much better]. My FPS were 25 to 30 (I had weather set at building storms), and water is set at Ultra.  I was using 1.9 GB of VRAM (out of 3.0) and my CPU remained around 30%.

With the same settings, NYC dropped my FPS down to 17-24, and I got 24 FPS sitting at KSEA (reducing the ground mesh a notch brought me back to 28-32 at KSEA).

Hey Arwen

I'm getting a solid 40-65 FPS (without FTX Global Installed yet waiting on FS to verify my payment so I can download) flying low around St Marteen with the following settings

CFG Edit

[JOBSCHEDULER]

AffinityMask=14

In Game settings

FXAA off

MSAA 8

Texture Filtering 16x

Texture Resolution 16x

VSync On

Triple Buffering On

FPS Unlimited

Max Terrain Sliders

Extreme Dense Scenery

Dense Autogen for both

Max Water Slider and Reflections

Max Special Effects

HDR & Lense Flare but no Ground Lighting

Medium Shadows without Terrain and Buildings

60mi Cloud Draw Volumetric Fog/Natural Thermals/Detailed Max Cloud Density

Traffic 40%/30%/40%

Its feeling good so far Im gonna see what I can jack up next without sacrificing any of the above since these are the last test options I can really do without for performance

Gonna start with Max Autogen then Max 4096 Textures then try for Max Shadows still without Terrain and Buildings though

Which ever makes the least impact Ill keep and after that Ill settle....lol for now!

Shadows seem to induce the most impact on fps for me ... Shadows set to Ultra and all Cast and Receive checked will drop fps considerably (especially with FTX).

Thanx Rob which cast receive options do you find the most worthwhile?

I honestly haven't really decided yet, I want all of them, but my single Titan just isn't up to the task.

Here is a link to the settings I'm currently using (actually I think I've check ALL reflections now but will probably turn Cloud reflections off, and have now set Road Vehicles to 30% and ship/ferries to 50%).

I agree. That and AI Traffic levels. But that's using MyTraffic X and it isn't supported yet for P3d2.

Like that GTX770 which seems to have 4 GB VRAM, 1 GB more than the GTX780: wouldn't it be better in the case of P2D 2.0 to get that GTX770 then...?

Good Q. These are the things we are yet to probe.... before we throw P3D v2 under the bus. :)

We are just discovring P3D v2. I am quite optimistic even though my FSX is fairly solid at the moment over my P3D v2.
