November 26, 201312 yr Running fairly old GTX 570's here (they are SLI'd, but that makes no nevermind to P3D for now). It's very easy to eat up the available (1.2GB) VRAM. The sim is definately GPU limited now, which is certainly a change of pace. Before, I could push resolution and AA/AF like crazy, because the sim was CPU locked. I'm very much considering a purchase of a GTX 770 4GB today. It seems a reasonable upgrade, since my 2500k @ 4.5ghz is still plunking along just fine, and I think the card has become a limiting factor in general (not just for P3D). And, hey, free Nvidia game pack if I buy today. Just wish I had more of a sense if the upgrade from the 570 to the 770 will make a minor or HUGE difference in P3D. I'd hate to spend the money and not see some big improvements.
November 26, 201312 yr I'm not convinced we're the lucky ones! Agree. Been spending the last day thinking, it has to be better than than this, experimenting with various settings and what am I missing. I need to be flying Air Hauler and making money but no FSUIPC. I'll try to be patient. Now, ive lost my click spots.
November 26, 201312 yr Now, ive lost my click spots. Have you just recently activated the Windows "Aero" theme? ........ I'm just thinking aloud, because my clickspots were working at first, and then seemed to stop working right when I turned on "Aero" (which in itself is a workaround for getting vsync to work). Got to ask myself, why the heck did LM do this 'pseudo full screen' business, and not just offer a proper full screen mode too.
November 26, 201312 yr Got to ask myself, why the heck did LM do this 'pseudo full screen' business, and not just offer a proper full screen mode too. I suspect it has to do with all the changes they made for multi-mon support. I run FSX maximized and windowed and haven't really noticed a difference in performance versus exclusive mode (true D3D full screen)...in DX10 at least; DX9 was a different story.
November 26, 201312 yr Commercial Member Does anyone here actually own a TItan? I am on the fence regarding getting a 780TI or Titan, really want to make a purchase in the next few days. I would like to know if that extra 3 gig on the Titan would make a difference? One last question can you tell the difference between full screen in P3D and FSX? I have always used full screen in fs9 and FSX with FMC, EICAS etc undocked to another screen..so I am a little worried about this new method they have implemented. Cheers Rob Prest
November 26, 201312 yr Yes, Rob (if I remember right) has a Titan. He was one of the first to upload a video with all settings maxed and great performance. I am also in the market for a new GPU. At first I was skeptical but after some fooling around I get good performance out of my GTX580 (even with builldings- and treeshadows!!!) so I know for certain a GTX780 wil ROCK! However, since I am going to buy ONLY a GPU instead of buying complete new computer (because my i5 2500K at 4.5 GHz still seems to do pretty well) I am also thinking about going one or two steps higher... I am told that the memory of the GPU is very important for for instance shadows and I have also read reports that P3D uses almost 3 GB VRAM and I'd rather be on the safe side... 4 GB sounds better, 6 GB sounds best. But well, yes, the price difference is HUGE and since I only play at 1920x1080 it might well be overkill. Still, a Titan is cheaper than an entire computer, which I first was planning to get...

Thanks for the info! in the UK the Titan is only £200 more expensive so not really a big deal. My mind was really set on the 780TI, don't want to spend the cash only to want a Titan a few months down the line. Hopefully some more Titan owners can comment. Cheers Rob Prest
November 26, 201312 yr Has anyone tried this out on a GTX 760 2GB? I bought this card last month and hope this will maybe cut the mustard. I really do not want to shell out another small fortune for a graphics card!
November 26, 201312 yr Look at some bench marks the Titan only scores a few FPS above the 780 I'd save the 200 pounds and get a 780. I went with a 770 4gb as I feel the more Vram the better as P3D isn't maxing out my GPU but it is maxing my 2GB of vram on my 660TI ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170
November 26, 201312 yr I think anything 2GB or over will be ok (if it's Nvidia hardware). Reports seem to back this up. You aren't going to max it out with a 760 but you'll be able to do well. For those that need new cards (I have a 570 I need to replace), there isn't a better time then now. Prices are going to plummet over the next few days with black friday.I have a Microcenter local as well and they should have some killer in-store only sales. Don't rush out and buy a card today. Wait for the sales.
November 26, 201312 yr Still, I am only going to spend this money once and I rather have the BEST card right now than almost the best card. But well, if the card doesn't get used to its full potential it would be a waste of money. So that's why I am also very interested in the importance of VRAM. Like that GTX770 which seems to have 4 GB VRAM, 1 GB more than the GTX780: wouldn't it be better in the case of P2D 2.0 to get that GTX770 then...?
November 26, 201312 yr I'd go for the 4GB 770. It's cheaper and the extra VRAM should be useful. The 780 has a little faster clocks. I'm also looking at the 4GB 680 version. They can be had under $300 used. This is the card Mir is running (Flightbeam owner) and he's getting excellent performance on it. My feeling is get the most VRAM possibly but still an upper level card (70/80 version of the 600 or 700 cards).
November 26, 201312 yr I have been looking at videocards all day lol, it's making me crazy. As I also noted in another topic in the hardware forums, I found the following comment by one of the LM team members on the P3D forums: "We do use more video memory in v2, but 2GB is probably safe assuming you're not running a ton of monitors and views. We need to do some more optimizing and bug fixing before we can get real benchmarking done, but a high end 2 GB card will likely run better than a low end 4GB card." Though far from conclusive, this points more towards the 780(Ti). However, some reports on VRAM above 2GB would mean that such card does not provide much headroom (though I only use one monitor and do not intend on adding any) and this worries me a bit, especially considering that I will probably be adding PMDG planes once available. I really have no idea what to do  Best regards, Alexander Rietveld
November 26, 201312 yr Commercial Member I really have no idea what to do When in doubt, buy the biggest and the baddest. Titan. :rolleyes:In all seriousness, I have a 780 and it's running fabulously. Aamir Thacker
November 26, 201312 yr My feeling is get the most VRAM possibly So, let's see what the Titan costs... ^_^ However, some reports on VRAM above 2GB would mean that such card does not provide much headroom (though I only use one monitor and do not intend on adding any) and this worries me a bit, especially considering that I will probably be adding PMDG planes once available. Indeed. You want to be ready for what's coming. I certainly will NOT buy a card with 2 Gb. I want at least 3 GB but prefer 4. Or more. The Titan is every expensive however... I would almost be ashamed to buy it.
