Is anyone going back to FSX now after 2 days with P3Dv2?

Featured Replies

the Estonia tool is not 100% with some addons, even if it installs them correctly.  The errors show up later in the sim like: sound, graphics, fatal errors and other issues.  I had the tool but now I wait for payware to be P3D 1.4 / 2.0 Certified.

Yes of course not all add-ons will migrate to P3D2, but those that don't aren't the fault of the migration tool! .... it's simply the case that they are legacy FSX add-ons and have incompatibilities with P3D.     There are still many many posts around with people struggling with manual installs and screwing stuff up, for add-ons that those of us using the Migration Tool have got working in a couple of clicks............... examples: Airbus Extended, QW 146s, Twin Otter Extended, Aerosoft Sceneries, etc, etc

Hello,

I uninstalled FSX two days ago and I will stay on P3D V2. I will change my configuration in the following weeks.

Amicalement.

"Knowledge is worth only if it is shared"

I will not support any developer who isn't 100 percent behind P3D, and will uninstall FSX as soon as everything I want is ported over. Even if there were never a version 2.1, this is the best simulator to date hands down.

I'm starting to look at all the space FSX is using up on my system. I have backups of default FSX just after a fresh install with sp1 and 2 loaded. Then I have my current set up backed up and then there's FSX itself. Then theirs backups off all the downloads I've ever made... The list goes on.

I'm just having far too much learning at the moment to pause and spend time loading and keeping the downloads that are still relevant and deleting all the rest of it. :) all my hard drives are going too feel so empty. :)

Well that's....ummm...this is all Dave's fault.

My GPU has 2GB of memory and according to nVidia inspector, pretty much all of it is being used which is interesting as that never happened in FSX.

I ended up disabling Inspector's driver configurations because of issues w/ it and DX11--ie, went to 'Application Controlled' AA.  Once I did that and understood how to get good image sharpness in V2 I went from underwhelmed to having trouble tearing myself away from it!  I have strong hardware though and so far it's been pretty awesome.   Can't wait to install some 3PD add-on planes which will have to wait til Sunday when we get back from the holiday visits.

Did an absolute brilliant flight last night using KJFK-KIAD with the Airbus Extended (all payware sceneries from the Black Friday sales),

The cockpit shading blew me away. I kept thinking, "This is real?"

As Real as it gets just got closer.

honestly p3d 2.0 makes me sicker the more i try it.

Maybe i want too much at the moment . the AXE makes me sick too with that f...... crashes. andd performance.... well. for me not really better then FSX in DX10.

Thinking about wanting my money back..

Waiting for PMDG stuff and then after that, waiting to see how they work. I have a sneaky suspicion that with PMDG stuff one will have to turn the sliders down much more to get them working. Then add in a good weather program like the new Activesky one, ASN with lots of multiple cloud layers, etc...

I've taken the plunge and not only purchased P3D, but also a new EVGA GTX 770 4gb  :O  for £350, I must be crazy

I also bought Track IR, both are due for delivery tomorrow B)

I thought I'd do a bit of testing though to get some direct comparisons so I at least feel like it was money well spent! as I haven't been using FSX for some time so I've sort've forgotten how poor performance was at times

The first test was to install both sims from scratch and begin taking screenshots and recording FPS at different stages

My current graphics card is a Radeon HD 7850, processor i7-3770k @ 3.90ghz, 12gb RAM

So by sharing an FLT file between both sims, and installing just the UK2000 Gatwick scenery in xtreme mode, I've found that both sims actually look quite similar out of the box. It's difficult to get an exact comparison, but I've tried to set everything the same where possible, at least to a point where the sims look broadly the same

So like for like as far as I can tell, I'm seeing autogen extending futher on P3D, and FPs is around 18-19 on FSX and around 33-34 on P3D

P3D is on the left

Nice comparison, thanks.  Curious to see how they both compare once AI is added and scenery gets some addons. I just can't stomach flying default.

That is looking fantastic Brian ! ....... Is that some of your 'redux' work in there?

Yeah it looks ugly doesn't it, looks like it will be a bit of a battle getting all the addons over at the moment, but the sim has only been out a couple of days so it will take some time for addon writers to react

I've bought the Estonian migration tool though and will try to get everything working myself
