Uninstall - Reinstall

Recommended Posts

Along with many others I have been fighting "crashes to the dsaktop". This all started the 1st week of October. Finally ended up reinstalling FSX & was actually able to make 10-12 flight with no problems. At that time I attributed the errors to problems with ATI AMD driver set. I used the install procedure that is documented elsewhere here. Here is one thing that showed up at installation. This has happened each time that FSX was installed. I bought FSX about a week after it was originally released. It was used on that machine, from that time until I got this new machine around 3 yrs ago. From that original install until I never had any problems running FSX. Scenery addons, fsx addons, a/c addons, did em all, no sweat. Made changes to cfg, some worked, some not, but FSX kept  on ticking. Now, with the most recent reinstall, when you put disk 1 in you can spell out where to install FSX. Each time I have installed FSX this has happened, most recently, created a directory C:\FSX. Spelt that out where you tell the installer where to install. It did the install & then I get the surprise........C:FSX has like 6 files in it & no other sub-folders. So, I go hunt to where it was installed..........C:\Program Files (X386)\FSX. Is there a way to make sure that the install goes where you want it, preferrably, C:\FSX.

I always recommend the FSX Uninstall/Reinstall guide at he following link - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx.%C2'> You most likely have seen it.  When you install FSX you will get the screen as to where you want to install it.  Look for an "Options" icon and click on Options and that will give you the opportunity to install it anywhere.

Best regards,

Jim

Well, I finally got fsx to install in C:\FSX. Now to add a/c, scenery, other add ons & tweak the CFG. All was installed with multiple reboots in both win7 & FSX & also multiple dfrags along with a defrag-optimize. It's 3:49 in the morning so the rest will be done tomorrow, er, later today.

Glad you got it figured out.  Take it slow adding the scenery/aircraft.  Make sure you run FSX at least once before installing Acceleration and, if you are not installing Acceleration, make sure you run FSX at least once after installing SP1 and then SP2.  AVSIM has a nice FSX Configuration Guide.  Look for the link in my signature.

No luck here, just really discusted. Loaded FSUIPC, the latest, and loaded one (1) aircraft. Also made some recommended revisions to FSX.cfg, I've had 3 crashes since the above, all of which occured upon exit from FSX after endin a flight. Here's the latest dump along with ,cfg:

For future reference, there is a second registry entry for an FSX install in a 64 bit OS and unless it is deleted prior to the fresh installation or repair, it will always install or repair to there, regardless of whether the registry fix has been applied.

You can find it in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\

Regards,

Nick.

FSX config - change WideAspectView under Display from False to True as you have a widescreen monitor.

Lower Texture_Max_Load from 2048 to 1024 (until this problem is fixed).  Are you telling any programs like REX or AS2012 to load 4096 textures?

Lower Autogen from max to normal or turn off.  Turn Airline Density from 62 to 30.

Check new AVSIM CTD Guide for possibilities for ntdll.dll crashes.  Appears you have too high settings.  Autogen is a resource killer.  Even Orbx/FTX does not recommend high settings.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jim

Jim,

I had wide aspect = 1 but things seemed wierd so I had changed back to 0 months ago & then left it there.

I will revise textures to 1024 & just since this latest reinstall have had no outside programs running. The only two that I normally have been running are Radar Contact & REX for weather. In REX I have always used the smaller textures, so no 4096 textures.

I will look at AutoGen & airline densitys.

Jim, thanx again for your time & timely advice. Since this all began with my system, a couple of months ago, I have had a chance to look into these problems more deeply than before. One thing that I noted was that the errors related to NTDLL.DLL are spread across the entire computer community. There was one forum, the Win7 forum, I believe, that I looked at & decided, well, I will go back & look at a months most recent postings. After getting back a month there was 22 pages with around 15 posting on each page. Am I wrong in assuming that perhaps MS should be more involved in these problems & also with the number of updates that they throw-up each month is it not possible that some or one of these update could help spur the problems existence, just sayin'.

Regards,

Pete

Respectfully, I think you are wrong. Even if they were still providing support (and they are not), there is no magic wand or programmer that can fix computer system problems (and that's what the ntdll.dll is related to). Everyone has a different setup. Some put a lot of pressure on the system resources as they want to have the best eye-candy possible. It won't happen! Even with P3D Lockheed is having problems! If you were having an ntdll.dll crash with your fsx settings set to the default as determined by Microsoft techs (that's the settings when you first start up fsx), then I would say, yes, there is a Microsoft FSX programming problem. But that ain't going to happen. When you first installed fsx and ran it for the first time, you probably had high fps (I had over 200 fps and they were constant). I installed GEX to replace my default textures (these textures are optimized for best performance) and ran FSX and got over 300 fps. Then I started raising my settings and adding addons. Slowly the fps in FSX began to fall. There's an Autogen tweak you can try from one of the developer's of FSX - http://polypoke.wordpress.com/2011/01/10/fsx-cfg-tweaks/. I think you can then turn that slider up to max but no computer system before Sandy Bridge can run Autogen at max for very long without getting crashes. This tweak may allow you to do it.

Best regards,

I understand that FSX is no longer supported but what I was referring to was all the other applications acroos the broad spectrum of computing that has been affected by these errors due to ntdll.dll. It was amazing to see this going on, that's all.

Since I have reloaded FSX into it's own directory, here's what's been happening. I also went back & loaded AMD 13.1 graphic driver. The 1st time I booted FSX it errored upon exit & once again after that. Then I was able to make a whole flight, moving around the menus during the flight & doing the things that I would have normally done during the flight. This flight was done with the reduced settings. Ended the flight & at the create flight screen went to peek at the flight log & then back to create flight. Exited FSX & upon exit, got the stopped working dialog box. Since, I have removed 13.1 driver & replaced with the 13.11 beta that someone was saying worked correctly. Still no glory, moved all the sliders to 0 & fsx still crashed. Now what I am going to do is unload 13.11 & go  to 13.4 & do any further testing with 13.4 alone. Then maybe I can get a crash report that we can tell something from.

This is normal.  Not an issue.  Usually you will get a BEX/StackHash error.  It will not crash FSX but you will get an error when you shut FSX down.  Happens to me a lot.  It's a settings issue.  As you can see in the AVSIM CTD Guide, the ntdll.dll is one of the most popular CTD's and there are a lot of different solutions.  If the voltage on your memory is off by 1/1 hundredth of a nanosecond, you can get an ntdll.dll crash while using FSX.  Bad overclocking settings will cause this crash.  It's a system dll.  It has nothing to do with FSX other than your system is crashing FSX as you do not have it set up properly.

I have no other solutions other than what is stated in the AVSIM CTD Guide.  If none of those work, then you need to see a computer expert and have your computer set up properly.
